Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great location but in need of a refresh The house is lovely and in a good location near the beach with a great pool. It is a perfect set up for a few families, or a group. The downside is the house needs a tidy up to be considered as a 5 star getaway. Examples include a number of the bedside lamps not working, loose door handles and light fittings and the oven not sealing properly. We needed to buy our own wine glasses & tea spoons and there was only enough toilet paper to last a night.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The good, the bad and the ugly.... The Good – We had a large group of family and friends staying here for 9 days. Despite some initial shocks as per below, we had an enjoyable stay. The property is located in a quiet area, a little bit away from shops and the beach, but that did not concern us at all. The house is roomy and the block a good size. It’s also very private. The Bad – In its heyday, this would have been a great beach house. It has good bones, however, it has not been well maintained. The online pictures make it look a lot better than it really is – it urgently needs some $$$ spent on it to bring it back to an acceptable standard to justify the prices they are asking for it. On arrival we found dead blow flies littered throughout the house and rodent droppings in the upstairs living area. It also looked like a spider breeding farm, with webs all over the place externally – it’s evident there has been no pest control program in place for some time. The carpets were badly stained in places and threadbare in heavy traffic areas. We spent a good 4 hours cleaning in and around the house before we got settled – getting rid of the spider webs from the pool fence took a good hour alone. There were 2 BBQ’s – both in a disgusting state of cleanliness. One of our guests spent 2 hours cleaning the smaller one so we could use it during our stay (one guest still refused to eat off it). We weren’t game to go near to other one! The Ugly – all the way through we found dealing with the owner quite difficult, particularly after we parted with our sizeable deposit. We also wanted to inspect the property some months prior to our stay. After this was rebuffed a number of times, the owner finally agreed, however, we were unable to get there on the date provided as we live interstate. The real sting is the tail though was when I followed up on the return of our significant bond a few weeks after our stay. The owner decided to deduct part of the bond to cover the cost of cleaning the BBQ that we did not use!! Presumably the guests after us complained about the state of it (as we should have), and the owner blamed us! I challenged this but the response was along the lines that I was a difficult customer, I should have reported it immediately, so tough luck. I also wrote to Stayz registering a complaint, but was advised there was little they could do about it other than liase with the owner. Lessons learned – 1. We should have paid more attention to the last Stayz review prior to making our booking (Mel - Great position, but in need of some TLC), which was a close reflection of what we found. When I quizzed the owner on this review when we were considering making the booking, I was told they were “difficult customers who could not be pleased” – no doubt in the same category in which we have been placed! 2. Only pay through Stayz, don’t pay owner direct as we did. 3. If you do choose to stay here, report any R&M, cleanliness issues, etc. to the owner immediately on arrival – allow a few hours for this as there will be a long list to work through. Failure to do so will probably result in loss of part of your bond, based on our experience. 4. Be prepared to do a few hours cleaning on arrival. 5. Although we loved the area, we would never book this house again, nor could we not recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We had a wonderful time! This house was perfect for our family holiday! Very neatly and cleanly presented. Extremely well equipped... and the clean towels and linen were a lovely (and helpful!) added touch. The house was extremely comfortable with so much space. And the pool was amazing! Wonderful to swim in - so clean and not chlorinated - the kids LOVED it. We would definitely recommend this property and hope to come again :)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great position, but in need of some TLC Pictures were full of promise, however a group of us arrived to uncut grass, and a very dirty outdoor area. The bedrooms were comfortable and well furnished. Unfortunately little things made our stay not as good as it could have been. Chipped coffee cups, no coffee or tea, bathroom lights that didn't work, and dinning chairs with large holes. The living area is cosy and the tv unit is a good one should you want to watch it. The position of this home is great, and that is it's redeeming feature. Whilst the pool area is a great space, the cobwebs, dirt and bird poo on most of the seats made it unpleasant. When spending a reasonable amount for a weekend stay these are things we all thought should have been attended to before our visit. Shoreham and Flinders are beautiful places to visit and if you are looking for a quite place to stay that sleeps several people this is a good choice. Hopefully you will have a difference experience to us, given the other positive reviews. With a little TLC I'm sure this home would be worth the stay. A little dissapointing.
