Spring House sits in an elevated position above the ocean on a 16HA 40 acre property known as Botanica Park on the town boundary of Apollo Bay. The property has been used as a meditation retreat for a number of years and Spring House was designed to accommodate the visiting meditation teachers.
Spring House has spectacular views of the ocean and beach, which can be enjoyed from the generous decks encompassing the house that offer private but open entertainment areas.
The house itself is a one bedroom self contained pavilion with a generous living area, modern kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Three sides of the living room are paneled glass doors which can open up to create an outdoor living room. Heating is provided by a statement double sided wood fire which takes center place in the middle of the living room. The kitchen has stainless steel gas cook top, electric oven, single drawer dishwasher, large fridge and is fully equipped with cooking utensils.
A Weber gas BBQ is located on the large sunny North/West facing deck, which also has outdoor furniture to relax on while taking in the lush bush outlook.
Spring House has an adjustable wall mounted TV, providing free to air TV reception and DVD player. Mobile phone reception from the house is good no WIFI provided.
The white bathroom is light and airy, with walk in shower and a beautiful deep bath which has been purposely positioned out from the house to gain ocean views, in addition to the private bush views. Open up the windows on three sides to enjoy the sound of the ocean and surrounding birdlife while you bathe.
Spring House offers all amenities, but is an off grid solar house built with the environment and health factors in mind. In case of a power failure there is a back up generator which is easy to operate.
The house is surrounded by temperate rainforest and sits next to a generous spring which flows into a permanent ferny pond behind the house. Above the house there is access to a demanding trail that extends to the top of the property which sits over 200m above sea-level and offers extraordinary views of the coastline in both directions. The walk down to the beach through the property gardens runs along the Wild Dog Creek where there are trout to be caught The Creek forms the boundary of the property.
The nearby sandy beach extends all the way into the Apollo Bay township or alternatively you can walk into town along the pleasant ocean side walkway approx 3km. The Wild Dog beach is well known for ocean fishing.
The Botanica Park property, which was denuded of trees when purchased, has been in the same hands for well over 30 years and the owner has planted virtually every tree and all the gardens on the block. The property sits alongside the Wild Dog Creek Estuary which is where the first pioneers made their way to the coast in 1846 from the inland. It is also the sight where Mr Ned Johnson drove the first coach into the settlement of Apollo Bay last century.
The property has abundant bird life, wallabies and, if you’re lucky, koalas.
Please note that there are sheep on the property, so to be mindful of this if you are taking a dog. The deck area around the house is fully enclosed and secure. When exploring the property, please keep your dog nearby and not let them chase the sheep.
