Things to do
Edge House is a perfect spot for a holiday whether it is a short or long stay. You are situated on the "golden mile" of Victorian surfing, starting at some of the best reef breaks around to the mecca of surfing that is Bells Beach. All these spots can be reached within a short drive. If shopping is your thing then Torquay surf shops are just a short trip down the road. Golfing your thing? The new RACV Resort and golf course is also a short walk down the Great Ocean Road. Tennis courts, a huge children's play park are down the road in Jan Juc. The Jan Juc cliffs are renowned for their magnificent formations and walking/riding tracks have been specifically built along the cliff tops enabling spectacular views along the miles of trails. The beautiful Jan Juc beach is only minutes away and is fully patrolled during the summer months. Looking for something more "child friendly" for the kids to swim, then Torquay's "Cosy Corner" offers calmer waters. For the fishermen there is good fishing straight off the beaches or at Spring Creek. Choosing somewhere to eat and drink will be the hardest choice to make, with the pub, Bird Rock Bar and Swells cafe in Jan Juc, or down the road in Torquay a myriad of choices too numerous to mention. If you don't want to move from that magnificent ocean view, just ring down to Torquay and arrange home delivery from many outlets who offer this service. Also great dining at the RACV Resort and Golf Course. Make sure you order a bottle of locally produced wine no hassle about driving, Edge House is only a 5 minute walk away. (booking is essential in peak periods). After dinner have a gamble on the numerous Poker Machines in their Gaming Room.
Great Ocean Road and Bellarine Peninsula
Jan Juc is central to take great day trips either in an east or west direction. West takes you along the Great Ocean Road, one of the most spectacular drives in the world. You will pass through picturesque beach town such as Anglesea and Lorne and through the smaller towns such as Wye River (Great Pub Grub) and Aireys Inlet. A 2 hour drive will bring you out at Apollo Bay the start of the wonderous Otway Ranges with its rugged coastline and a further hour or so and you can reach the Twelve Apostles (don't forget the camera). Along the way eateries, wineries and many other attractions, such as the Otway Fly, will ensure your day out is a memorable one.
East takes you along to the Bellarine Peninsula through Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove and onto Point Lonsdale and Queensliff. From Queenscliff you can catch the ferry over to Sorrento or enjoy wandering amongst the ornate buildings of a bygone era. Point Lonsdale has great diving, and Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove are filled with small cafes and boutique shopping. Stop at Portarlington Pier and buy some mussels straight off the boat. Wineries are Olive Groves are also prevalent in this area, so stop in at Cellar Door and buy a nice local bottle to savour with those mussels!
All in all a fabulous day out.
