Character home close to Port Campbell town centre and beach, 10 minutes drive to the Apostles
The house used to be an old school house in the 1870s in a small country town called Carpendeit and was moved to Port Campbell about 15 years ago.
It is a charming home full of character.
Please note: based on the size of bedrooms, the house is best suited to a family of 4-5, two couples or a group of 4 close friends.
There are two bedrooms upstairs: a main with a queen size bed and a smaller bedroom with two full size single beds.
There is a sofa-bed in the living room downstairs which pulls out to a double bed. We also have two thin single mattresses that can be used for an additional child.
For any guests traveling with a baby or small child, there is a travel cot available to use at no extra charge.
There are two balconies upstairs. Downstairs there is a large deck that wraps around 3 sides of the house.
There is a BBQ on the deck for you to use if you wish.
We have an outdoor fire place in the backyard and a wood-fire oven in the living room. Plenty of fire wood and kindling is provided for you to use.
Minimum stay is 2 nights except during low season.
Location and things to do in the area:
The Old School House is a leisurely 900 meters to Port Campbell beach and town centre.
The beach is situated in a bay and is therefore suitable for swimming most time of the year. There is also the river at the end of the beach which is great if you are travelling with small children.
Port Campbell town has a tourist information centre, police and a CFA fire station, a local grocery store, a petrol station and a number of nice cafes. The local pub has ocean views and is located right opposite the beach.
The 12 Apostles are only a 10-15 minute drive from the house, same with Loch Ard Gorge, the Gibson Steps, London Bridge and the Bay of Martyrs.
Visit the neighbouring towns of Princetown and Peterborough and take an inland drive to Timboon and the gourmet food trail.
You might want to go hiking in the Otway National Park, to brave heights at the Otway Flytree Top Walk, to visit the glow worms at night and to visit the historic Cape Otway light house.
Bed sheets, towels, tea, instant coffee and sugar are provided.
All of the bed sheets, including the doona cover, towels, face washers and tea towels are freshly washed for our guests when we get the house ready.
Please ensure to let us know the correct number of guests so that we can provide enough towels.
We are keen to keep the character of the house.
The toilet will remind you of an Australian outhouse. We also kept the kitchen rustic although it has all modern amenities you will need for your stay: freestanding electric oven and stove with range hood, a new kettle and new toaster, pots and pans, plates, cutlery, etc.
The spacious bathroom has a full size bath and a separate shower.
There is an air-conditioner in the living room for heating in winter and cooling in summer as well as a wood-fire heater for cosy winter nights.
There is a panel heater in the main bedroom and a radiator heater in the second bedroom.
If using, please ensure these are switched off when leaving the house.
There is a large dining table that seats up to 8 people if you wish to invite some friends over for dinner.
