Tower Hill Nature Reserve

Though you can drive through, there is direct access to the reserve from our garden. The Tower Hill Nature Reserve is nestled inside an extinct volcano and is a beautiful haven for all sorts of wildlife. You will see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, emus and many species of water birds.

Tower Hill is also great for bushwalking and picnics BBQs and facilities provided. Guided day or night tours can be booked at the Tower Hill Natural History Centre T , which is open daily.

Tower Hill was created some 25,000 years ago in a violent volcanic eruption. The force of the blast created a funnel shaped crater, which was later filled by a lake and island.

On a walk you could well see possums, echidnas, cape barren geese and wedge–tailed eagles – Australia’s largest bird of prey. Keen twitchers might also spot chestnut teal, musk duck and spoonbills from the boardwalks and bird hide. Eagles often soar at dusk.

There are numerous activities and events throughout the year in both Port Fairy and nearby Warrnambool. This includes festivals, boat trips, beach walks, golf, shopping, restaurants and great food

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Feels Like Home Tower Hill House is in a terrific location for a base from which to explore the south western part of Victoria. It's a great home with all of the creature comforts we needed - open fire, great kitchen and an open living area. With views of the ocean from the front of the property, and the Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve over the back fence, Tower Hill House is very special. And Richard was great with his suggestions for restaurants and where to shop for supplies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from VIEWS! VIEWS! VIEWS!!! From the moment I requested the booking I had the owner Richard on the phone making brilliant suggestions on things to see/do and eat. We had dinner at Conlan’s Wine Store in Port Fairy and it was the best meal we have had in years! That said we didn’t want to leave the house! It was so clean, cute and comfortable and the views!!!! The views front and back were sensational! Not to mention the Tower Hill Reserve is literally over the back fence, we went out and watched the sun set over the reserve the 1st night. The kitchen was amazing and had everything you needed. It was so nice to sit in front of the fire looking out the window with a glass of wine while a storm rolled through. Also the wildlife! We saw roos, bunnies so many different birds and we even had a little frog jump on our windscreen. Our dog LOVED it! There was a great secured fenced off area we could leave him in if we went out it was really sheltered and he was super happy being left there. Also as a bit of a treat Richard is also a brilliant Photographer and some of his beautiful works adorned the walls. Not to mention the attention to detail with the beautiful native flowers in most rooms. Also the bed was super comfortable with really nice linen. It was exactly what we wanted a romantic, relaxing, private get away with some great views. We will defiantly be back to stay here!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great property and location This is a comfortable, clean and homely place where we enjoyed a lovely couple of nights. The facilities are great and plenty of space both inside and in the gardens for children to explore and enjoy. Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Clean and comfortable Our host, Richard, was very helpful and friendly and is to be congratulated on a very clean and comfortable cottage. He has done a very good job on making it appealing to a wide array of visitors who will find the location very convenient as well as quite private. There has been very close attention to details such as good quality coffee etc in the kitchen as well as nice linen and decor. The selection of books was diverse and sophisticated. For those with dogs though, the yard is not fully enclosed which can cause some concerns. You wouldn't be able to leave them unattended. Overall, an outstanding experience was had and we look forward to our next visit.
