“Photos don't do it justice This place is just amazing...views are breathtaking and Bruce was just wonderful. I highly recommend this accommodation as everything was well beyond expectations. Thank you Bruce”

“Bruce was extremely welcoming, and informative. Could not ask for a better host. The DrikDrik schoolhouse is unique: entrance road lined with giant fig trees forming an avenue of honour. For those interested in the European history of rural Victoria the magnificently restored original school house is a cultural experience Very easy to find and reach - approx 10 minutes from PacificHwy A1 but situated in a peaceful rural environment. A great 1/2 way place to stay between Melbourne and Adelaide. Close to the Glenelg River with plentiful walks; we wished we could have stayed longer. The modern extension to school house and courtyard/deck area are an added bonus.”

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Heritage property with all modern conveniences The impressive main room (with fully equipped kitchen, big screen TV and dining area) is the old school house and retains its original character. The light-filled extensions have good views and comprise the modern bedrooms and bathrooms. There's an excellent outdoor deck with pizza oven and BBQ. Some of the Moreton Bay Figs in the WWI Avenue of honour that runs outside the front gate are quite remarkable. The house is just fantastic. And its a definite bonus that the house is dog-friendly. The location is quiet and secluded, but not too isolated as Cape Bridgewater (lakes and a good swimming beach), Portland, Mt Gambier (with its Blue Lake and good cafes) and Nelson are within easy drives. The beautiful Nelson beach is closest and, although not safe for swimming, is dog-friendly. Perhaps the main attraction is the proximity to the Glenelg River. There are stunning views along the river if you rent a boat or kayak from Nelson. Most of the accessible river in Victoria is in the National Park and so not dog friendly, but you can get your dog down to the river in the South Australian stretch centred around Donovans. The Princess Margaret Rose Caves are close to the river bank and are well worth a visit. Overall this is a great place to escape to for a few days.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing place and exceptional value. We wanted to break up our drive between Melbourne and Adelaide and came upon the Old School in Drik Drik. The reviews sounded good but upon arrival our expectations were exceeded. The house was immaculate and the charm of the Old school had been lovingly restored. The gardens are lovely and although we never met her, Barb was very responsive to our emails. The village is steeped in history and the locals were very friendly. Koalas were numerous as were the emus grazing with the cattle. A perfect getaway, 5 star experience at a very reasonable price. The pizza oven was also great fun! Thanks guys, we thoroughly enjoyed the Old School experience! Garry, Michae & Comet

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just beautiful! We had a most wonderful relaxing time in this beautiful and respectfully restored historical school house. So much history in the area -- and everything you could possibly want to self cater -- to take time out and smell the roses. The fireplace is sufficient to keep the whole place cosy and warm, but there's also reverse cycle air conditioning / heating if you prefer. The kitchen has everything you could want, and there are some basic food items to make life easier. The garden is gorgeous and we certainly made use of the vegetables, strawberries and lemons. It is so close to the Lower Glenelg National Park, canoeing, walking and barbecuing on the river, and exploring and walking the beaches and fresh-water lakes of Discovery Bay and Nelson. It was great to spend time in the area after an absence of over 20 years. Thank you Barb and Bruce for the chance to spend some time once more in this little piece of paradise.
