Description

Wye River is a picturesque coastal hamlet surrounded by the Great Otway National Park on the Great Ocean Road.

Jacks Place sits on a ridge with views looking east over the gorgeous Wye Beach to the ocean beyond and west up the valley to the forest. Its position means it is sunny all day and it has been designed to be comfortable all year round. In three minutes walk you will be at the beach, the Wye Pub or the Wye General Store and Caf with its artisan bread and local produce.

The house was built in 2002, and incorporates recycled feature doors and floors into a stylish interior to create a relaxed and warm atmosphere. The home is centred around the open-plan living room with floor-to-ceiling double-glazed windows and sliding doors on both sides to capture the amazing all-day views. At night there are blinds to create a pleasant evening space. A funky well-appointed kitchen looks over a flat backyard so the cook can keep an eye on the kids. There's a cosy wood stove plus a portable heaters for winter warmth. Decks front and back mean you can watch the sun rise over the sea with your morning coffee and the sun going down over the forest as you light up the BBQ. A hundred-year-old manna gum out the front with its sprawling low limbs provides a playground of adventure for the kids. It has occasional visits from koalas, normally spotted in the big gum trees behind. The garden attracts honeyeaters, Rufus bristle birds, flycatchers, kookaburras, bowerbirds, herons, king parrots, and superb blue wrens. In the cooler months when the rainclouds chase the rainbows over the horizon, you can laze in front of a fire or bird watch from your armchair

There are three bedrooms, to suit two small families or one bigger family. The third bedroom or bunk room is rather compact and beds not really suitable for adults over 6'2. Jacks Place has been designed for accessibility and has a gently sloping entrance ramp, an open bathroom, and handrails for family members who need a bit of help for stability.

Telstra mobile network is preferable for Wye River

So be adventurous, or just come and sit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Second time at Jacks Place and just a good as the first. Clean, Comfortable, the BEST location in Wye with stunning views. Spent lots of time watching the surfers from the deck and sitting by the well-equipped indoor fire warming up. The bedrooms are compact but the great living/dining space makes up for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Family Escape Second time we've stayed at Jacks Place and hopefully not the last. The views are amazing and you can spend hours sitting in front of the fire while watching the waves crash in. The backyards just as fascinating with kookaburras, king parrots, rosellas and galas all waiting for you to feed them while you cook on the bbq. Walking distance to the beach, pub & cafe making it one of our favorite holiday destinations. You will get Telstra reception, but not Optus . . . . but this was a good thing to relax and get back to nature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great compact house with views This place is ALL about the views and it is worth compromising on space just a little to enjoy it. Having said that, the only real compromise we found was that the space in the bedrooms and clothes storage space was a little smaller than we were expecting. But if you are planning on living in bathers and beach clothes it'll be totally fine. The living space and kitchen was absolutely perfect, with plenty of comfy seating to make the most of the views and to watch the abundant birdlife play in the water baths and nibble on seed. There was even a fire for those drizzly days when you just have to stay inside and play any of the abundant games or watch a favourite movie (but bring your own DVDs) on the TV. The house is also and easy stroll down the hill to the pub or the General store where you will get AMAZING brunch and lunch fare (we ate there twice in 2 days). The beach is then just across the road and has great rocks to ramble over at low tide as well as a patrolled beach (in season). We also grabbed some fish & chips from Kennett river for dinner one night and were pretty happy with the quality of the flathead and very crispy chips. We'd definitely stay again if ever we are back down that way, especially if we were travelling on our own or with family or good friends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A beautiful little house! We loved our stay at “Jacks Place”. We arrived at the property to discover a great little place with beautiful view across Wye River. Incredibly clean and perfectly presented, this house was perfect for a family of five. Beds were super comfortable, wild life and small grass areas and climbing tree kept the kids entertained outside and an endless cupboard full of family games for the rainy days. We loved the historical photos and story about the house and especially loved the kids “Wye River bushfire on Christmas Day” book- very moving! Just a stroll to the beach, pub and cafe we will definitely book again! X felicity & Shane
