Montacute Pavilion is the region's most architecturally significant new getaway, inspired by a Baroque banqueting pavilion in the gardens of Montacute House, Somerset, nestled within one of the most outstanding private gardens in Daylesford.
From the moment you arrive and the carport door closes behind you, you are transported into another world. A garden path takes you past magnificent 150-year-old chestnut trees, listed on the significant tree register, to the entrance of this private and stunning hideaway. Antique and modern furnishings are skilfully used to create a one-off luxury pavilion designed as a romantic getaway for couples. It is perfect for a weekend away, for a wedding couple for the days around the wedding, or for a honeymoon. Wedding venues are nearby, and Montacute is a great setting for photos.
Montacute is a completely private retreat in the treetops. Upstairs is one large bedroom with king-size bed, with a cuddle sofa looking down into the garden at the front, vintage chesterfield armchairs looking down to a baroque parterre and a Chinoiserie fabrique on one side, and on the other a view through the treetops to Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens.
There are sheepskin rugs, a gas log fire, and you can watch TV in bed. The private ensuite has a glittering shower niche and a two-person soaking bath where at night you can soak by candlelight or dimmed lights. It gets the morning light, and features stunning views of Wombat Hill and across farmland and nearby hills during the day the blinds work from the bottom up, for complete control over privacy. Toiletries are by Molton Brown.
There is another king-size bedroom twin beds on request and ensuite downstairs as well, so Montacute can also function as two private spaces for two couples, friends or families. The staircase door can be locked from above, creating separate private spaces.
Downstairs has been designed with nods to the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century, with an eclectic mix of antique and contemporary European furnishings, including antique Indian columns, Persian rugs, bespoke light fittings, a gas log fire and TV, and a window seat covered in William Morris fabric for cosy days and nights looking into the garden or enjoying the fire.
There is a fully-equipped kitchen with washer-dryer and antique dining table stocked with a complimentary hamper of local produce and a bottle of Passing Clouds wine. Thoughtfully designed inside and out, this property features an extensive terrace with cafe tables leading down to a baroque parterre and a Chinoiserie pavilion in the garden.
Located only 200 metres from the botanical gardens on Wombat Hill and a short walk to the centre of town, a stay at Montacute Pavilion is a once in a lifetime experience, a place for creating memories.
