Charming, peaceful and surrounded by nature, The Church at Lyonville will convince even the most unwavering urbanites to slow down and stay a few nights or more in this historic rural hamlet. What's the draw? A thoughtful renovation of a gorgeous traditional 1920s timber church, in which original features were saved and the surrounding grounds lovingly transformed into a mature and private park style garden where established trees and extensive lawn areas beautifully showcase the areas expressive seasonal character.
Guests arrive down a quiet tree-lined country lane in the heart of Lyonville to find the Church sitting quietly on the crest of a gentle hill. Inside, the church is light-filled, open and welcoming. A portico opens into the nave, where a fresh, simple colour palette highlights the gorgeous golden glow from the original and stunning stained-glass windows. The nave showcases numerous other unique features, including the soaring ceiling, interior window boxes, rich timber panelling and the original confessional which has been cleverly converted into a walk-in pantry.
A generous queen bedroom sits atop of the main living space in an open loft with commanding views over the church nave and, outwards, over the garden towards the Wombat State Forest - a special space for those looking for something different. For those wanting more privacy, there are two lovely downstairs bedrooms, each with their own garden views. Flexible bedding arrangements can cater to all groups this is a wonderful destination for families, friends, couples and girls' gatherings.
The main space features a wood heater, lounge, dining and kitchen. The furnishings bring modern luxury in a style that is just right for the country setting with places for guests to gather together or sit quietly with a wine by the fire. A lovely sitting room with a TV can be shut off for movie nights, and the window seat is a perfect place for lazy afternoons with a good book.
A north facing deck connects the house to the garden. In summer, the shaded lawn area under the historic oak tree creates an outdoor living area. A separate one-room bungalow even sits at the back of the property where kids can be kids and play to their heart's content. If you're lucky enough to be there on a Wednesday evening, make the most of the gourmet food truck, Judder Bar Eats, at the village hall or book a table at the famous Radio Springs Hotel.
