House on O'Farrell is situated in the immaculately preserved suburb of Yarraville, which feels like a different world from the CBD, just 8 kilometers away. Melbourne is regarded as one of the world's most liveable cities and the term 'Marvellous Melbourne' (first used in the 1880s) is still frequently used by the media and its residents today. Many of our guests come from overseas and we would encourage you all to take the time to get to know why Melbourne is often referred to as such a liveable city.

This cozy but beautifully appointed home-away-from-home is perfectly situated close to all of Melbourne's main tourist attractions. House on O'Farrell is situated perfectly between the suburbs of Yarraville and Seddon. In Yarraville, go about your usual inner-city business at a relaxed pace around the village nexus of Anderson and Ballarat streets. Wander along Gamon Street - to Charles and Victoria Streets (in Seddon) to choose between one of the 14 restaurants listed in the Australian Good Food and Travel Guide. If you after the complete relaxation package, why not book in for a massage (with practitioners providing exceptional holistic healthcare) or the wellbeing clinic located directly at the end of the street?

Envy the locals over coffee and cakes at the local bakeries. Bookend the day with cocktails at any of the licensed local restaurants, or, have tapas and nibble on pizzas within the delightful open-aired cafes. Stroll through boutiques, gift shops and bookstores, and keep your eye out for artisan wares, jewellery and gourmet food and wine that is hard to find in the big city. Don't miss the beautifully restored Art Deco Sun Theatre, opened in 1938 and a modern-day icon of Melbourne's film community. Enjoy a glass of wine or beer while catching cult films, classics and recent releases.

Curtis Stone (who was recently interviewed by the Herald Sun - in recognition of Melbourne's 180th Birthday in 2015) when asked about the best suburb in Melbourne said: "Yarraville is really quaint. It's got a small-town, country vibe going on but is only a stone's throw from the city. Wandering around Yarraville, stopping by a wine bar followed by a film at the art deco Sun Theatre would make the ultimate date night for me."

Ideally this property is suited to couples and older families travelling from the country or guests flying in from interstate/overseas who want to base themselves centrally in Melbourne or be close to relatives in the area. Young families will need to make contact with the owner to see if this house is appropriate for your needs. This is not a place where large family gatherings or parties can be thrown.


This property is situated (in close walking distance) to both Seddon and Yarraville train stations and is closely located to many of Melbourne's main tourist attractions:

- 20 minutes train trip to Southern Cross Station

- 20 minutes train trip to Etihad Stadium, the Melbourne Aquarium and Docklands district

- 20 minutes train ride to the Crown Casino, MCG and Melbourne Convention Centre

- 20 minutes train ride to Australian Tennis Open/Rod Laver Arena

- 25 minutes taxi ride to Melbourne Airport

- easy access and a one hour's drive to Geelong's Eastern Beach and add a further 22 minutes to reach Torquay Beach (the start of the Great Ocean Road).

By train, catch the Werribee line from Flinders Street or Southern Cross stations. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes. By car, Yarraville is 10 minutes from the CBD via the West Gate Freeway or travel down Footscray Road. Take the Williamstown Road exit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So private, peaceful and convenient! We had an extended stay for two weeks, three adults and two kids and it was perfect for us all. The house is in such a quiet street with its own private backyard that was great to relax and let the kids tinker about in a safe space. The house is equipped with everything from kitchen to laundry and comfortable beds with plenty of towels and extra bedding. The location was also a major plus for us, a playground down the road, coffee shops, restaurants, supermarket and we even treated ourselves to a night at the Sun Theatre which is a real gem with its period charm. We had a hire car and found it to be easy to access all areas of greater Melbourne, taking ourselves out for day trips then returning to our own space at the end of the day was so nice. Highly recommend this place, very well presented and great for a family and the owners were so easy to deal with.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing house! The house is beautiful. Full of character & perfect for a "home away from home", vacation property. Our sons loved the space. And every little detail was taken care of. The central heating was also so good! Would highly recommend a holiday at the property. It's close to everything. And really adds to the whole Melbourne experience. The owners are also really really lovely and will really look after you.

Well situated in the friendly suburb of Yarraville. 8 minutes walk to Yarraville or Seddon train stations, then only a couple of stops to Melbourne CBD. Chris was fantastic to deal with, so prompt with replies and generous with his local knowledge. Everything has been thought of for guests comfort at this lovely home. Beautifully decorated, milk, bread and muesli supplied. I have nothing but good things to say about this outstanding property, perfect!

The house is very cosy and warm and really does feel like a home away from home. Chris has been very helpful with everything we have needed to know about the area. I would highly recommend the Ofarrell house to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A wonderful house, in a wonderful location! 25 O’Farrell St was a great choice for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids under 10). The property has been tastefully renovated and has more than enough living space for 4-6 people, with a fabulous outdoor area for entertaining. The house’s proximity to the villages of Seddon and Yarraville were a huge plus – and the various Asian dining options of Footscray are also only a stone’s throw away. Melbourne CBD is accessible from Seddon Station (via a 10 min walk and a 15 min train journey) and the beaches and restaurants of Williamstown are also only 15mins in the opposite direction. Overall we had a great experience and have no hesitation in recommending this house to others or renting again on our next visit to Melbourne.
