Cowes is a charming seaside town that boasts about 4000 permanent residents.
There is little public transport on the Island, so you will need to have the use of a car if you want to see the best attractions on offer. The only exception to this is when the Moto GP is in town. For this mega-event there are regular buses departing from key locations around the Island to ferry the thousands of fans to and from the Track.
In the heart of town you will find two huge supermarkets, as well as a vibrant shopping centre including many outstanding cafes and restaurants.
The best breakfast in town can be had at Mad Cowes, a cafe situated on the foreshore, and one of the most popular eateries in town, while the Cheeky Goose in Chapel Street does great lunches and evening meals.
For a great Italian meal try Pino's Restaurant, an establishment with strong connections with the Moto GP, and a decor that reflects this theme, and if you like to play the pokies after lunch or dinner, then the RSL club features the Lone Pine Restaurant, the largest and arguably most popular eatery in town, plus plenty of one-armed bandits for your enjoyment.
The Island's best-known attraction however, is the world famous Penguin Parade, and if you are a first-time visitor, it's not to be missed Tickets to this and many other attractions are available at the Visitor Information Centre in Newhaven, which is prominently located on the Phillip Island Tourist Road, shortly after crossing the bridge. One thing to note about the Penguin Parade is that it happens at dusk, and even in summer it can get very cold, so dress warmly for this event
