The historical village of Tanjil Bren is only a 2 to 2 ½ hours drive east of Melbourne, in the Baw Baw range

This 3 bedroom loft looks rustic on the outside, with all of the comforts on the inside. It is solar powered, which provides electricity and gas for cooking, hot water and home entertainment. Our water is sourced from a natural spring that originates from a steep highland close by.

As part of your retreat from urban living, you can spend the day lolling on the deck and watch the Rosellas and King Parrots in the huge gum trees nearby or rest by the log fire and read a book or watch TV/DVD, or listen to your favourite music on our inbuilt CD/iPod stereo speaker system.

A newly installed wet room with Japanese bath, has a skylight with view of the mountain ranges and the sky.

Whether you want a relaxing getaway or some sport and adventure, Tanjil Bren offers;

Sport and adventure

Tanjil Bren is the last village before arriving at Mt Baw Baw ski fields - within 20 minutes drive from Tanjil Bren. Great skiing, both downhill, cross country and snow boarding. Mt Baw Baw is Melbourne's closest downhill ski resort, with 35 hectares of groomed ski runs, 7 ski lifts, 3 snow play areas and 10kms of groomed x-country ski trails and unlimited terrain among the snow gums to explore The official snow season at Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort is 06 June - 31 August subject to snow conditions

A terrific trout playground The Tanjil River is naturally stocked with spectacular specimens of brown and rainbow trout.

There are many interesting walks to explore, such as the 1 hour walk from the lodge to the magnificent Tanjil River Waterfall.

The abundance of bird life is a twitchers paradise, from tiny Blue Wrens, Lyrebirds, Rosellas, King Parrots, black and white Cockatoos, Kookaburras, Wattle Birds and Eagles who soar high up in the valley thermals.

Wombats, Wallabies, Possums, Echidnas, and for the very serious animal lover, Deer can sometimes be spotted close to the village. Koalas have been seen as close as Icy Creek and Platypus in the local river, a 3 minute drive from the Tanjil Bren.

Fine dining or alfresco

Timber Top Lodge has an outdoor dining suite and Pizzaria Gas Pizza BBQ.

The Harvest Kitchen at Jindivick, near Neerim South offers the finest produce from Gippsland for a range of gourmet menu dishes from their wine store, fromagerie and provedore. You can select a hamper of these delicious goods to bring with you to Tanjil Bren.

35 mins from Tanjil is the The Toolshed Bar and Bistro at Noojee - the town's most famous watering hole. It is famous for its corrugated iron bar, massive open fire place and surrounding beer gardens.

The Toolshed is well known for its big hearty meals like the massive Parma board with 12 selection of parmas made from "real chicken” the famous billy burger and lamb pot roast to die for.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice overall. Very cold in winter The house is well appointed, quirky and cosy. 12v power has its limitations but gas fridge and stove all worked well All conveniences supplied except sheets and pillowcases. Our main negative was that the house is very cold in winter and the wood heater is totally inadequate. We stayed in July and checked out after 1 night as just too cold with two small children. Ice on the kitchen sink from esky did not melt at all overnight with heater flat out. We all slept in ski gear in the one bed huddled together. Was nice to feed the birds off the back deck before we left. be nice in summer Manager was nice to deal with

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great long weekend getaway! My husband and I had a great time at Timber Top Lodge. The location is so beautiful and peaceful, and the birds on the deck each morning were an extra special treat. The house was well equipped and everything from booking to check out was so easy. We would definitely book again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Relaxing environment We spent two nights here on our way to Mt Baw Baw, kids love the place and bird feeding is one of the highlights of our stay.Place is well equipped, clean and every thing was in order. We never had gas until 4pm on the first day, so never had hot water and the fridge stopped working because it was working on gas. Neighbour helped us to switch on the fridge after receiving the gas and explained us how to run the generator if required. I think its great if owner could add some instruction to the house manual about the fridge, the generator operation etc... We had a great time here and highly recommended for a relaxing getaway.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Serenity and bliss The place was well equipped with solar panels and luxurious bathroom. There was a nice road through the mountains that is usually used for logging trucks but made for a good walk. The parrots on the deck every morning made for a great stay. On the downside there are no fans for the upstairs area which made the place very warm to sleep at night during the summer months and the lights in some of the rooms were fused. We were also disturbed on our final day by valuers which woke us up in the morning. That can possibly be done on a different date to the stay or at a much later time. We had arranged for a 12pm checkout and they came 10am so it was intrusive for the family.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tranquil stay It was a bit hard to find the place without signposts but we did find it eventually after asking around. The fire was lit when we arrived so it wasn't too cold. The lights were dimmer then normal (but that was expected) but was sufficient for lighting the rooms. The rooms in one of the bedrooms weren't working though. It was also a bit of a surprise to find the toilet on the outside. The bird seed was a great extra especially in the morning where we were able to hand feed the birds.
