Venus Bay is a leisurely 2.5 hour drive from Melbourne along the Bass Highway.
Like visiting the end of a Rainbow is Venus Bay. A small hamlet about 40 minutes from Wonthaggi where all your shopping needs can be met, with Target, Big W, Aldi, coles, Woolworths and much much more.
You will proceed through the Inverloch roundabout onto Tarwin Lower. Inverloch has lots of spiritual activities, services, fetes, childrens activities, lovely calm beach and lots of lovely eateries and mini golf.
Tarwin Lower is a small little town that has the last garage to Venus Bay, a take away shop and a IGA, butcher, hardware store, including a pub which often has live bands and great menus.
There is a tourists 35m picnic table to enjoy as you round the bend to Venus Bay.
Venus Bay boasts a trendy eatery with outdoor bar and fire place, real estate agents,fabulous pizza bar, very well stocked mini grocer/milkbar and liquor store, and ice cream shop. All within a 4 minute walk from our house.
Community Centre, Opportunity shop, and kids skateboard park, and kids xmas holiday programs for children are all located at this Community Centre which is also less than a 5 minute walk from our house.
We are located in the 1st estate, which is 800 mm from the surf beach, which in peak season is manned by qualified life savers, due to the nature of the surf. Nippers is held over the Christmas break to ensure children learn to read the surf.
Surf and river fishing are wonderful relaxing sports that are enjoyed by many a holiday maker on the board walk in Tarwin Lower, or to the Inlet where you can launch your boat. On dusk at the Inlet you can witness the dozens of kangaroos and other wild life coming out to entertain you from the wild.
The Fishing club run fishing competitions throughout the year for visitors. The Men's Shed and CFA run garage sales and the Surf Life Saving Club also run pizza/pasta and trivia nights at the club during the summer time as a fund raisers and invite the public. Venus Bay Retreat in Inlet View Road, toward beach 2, is a small restaurant and B&B including spa, massage and other modeltieis to rid you of stress. MUST book on line prior to visiting, as it is very popular.
Our house has three beds, 1 triple bunk in bedroom 2, including a fold out bed, and bedroom 1 has to single beds, and main bedroom has a queens size bed. The main lounge and Sunroom/games room both have fold out couches to be used as beds.
Two Tvs' DVD Player, smark TV USB, Microwave, saucepans, all cook ware, cutlery, crockery, pillows, blankets, BYO linen, washing machine, fridge, freezer, pool table, large BBQ/converts to pizza oven, including a HUGE outdoor deck. Also outdoor hot and cold shower. Unlimited tank water.
Venus Bay is within cooee of Wilsons Prom, where you can spend a day enjoying Waratah Bay, Sandy Point, Walkerville, hidden secrets of South Gippsland. A trip to Cape Liptrapp Lighthouse is fun for the kids. A lovely country drive to Foster about 40 minutes drive from VB for a picnic in the main park in the town, or a browse around the country shops.
Wonthaggi, Leongatha, Foster have the main hospitals. BY calling 000 in an emergency you will automatically get a local first aiders, who will attend within minutes to attend to your needs until ambulance can arrive about 30 minutes away.
Venus Bay is flat, and boasts a Tour de Tarwin bike race, at Easter Time, attracting up wards of 2,000 people for the fund raising event for the CFA.
Tarwin Lower have a bowls club, mini golf, tennis court. TWL also hosts a monthly market in the main street, next to the town hall with crafts, second hand goods. Often on public holidays, and a sign will be posted outside the town hall.
Tarwin lower have a small anglican church in the main street.
Beach one in Venus Bay is the safest beach to enjoy with children as it is manned by life savers at all times during the summer season.
Dogs are permitted on the beach, but adhere to the rules and regulations and times of year due to the breeding times of Plover birds breeding.
Tarwin Lower hotel also offers a courtesy bus to pick you up and return you to your door, after visiting and enjoying a band, meal or a drink at the Tarwin Hotel, which is over looking the river.
Phillip Island is about 1 hour drive away (?) and there you can enjoy the shops, the beach, the sites, and the Christmas Carnival, mini gold and much more. Including the penguin parade, which commences about 9pm in summer on dust, due to day light saving time (check times and days) before arriving.
Seal Rock and Churchill Island are both lovely places to take the children.
Venus Bay also has a caravan park with onsite cabins, however this is also very very popular with tourists and books out early in the year for the summer season.
We also have DVDs and board games, pool table, which can be used as a table tennis table.
We are also very proud to boast we have a resident wombat, who has made his home in our garden. Not that we have seen him, but his home (hole) is on show for all to see.
If relaxing is what you are after, then a good book, and a bottle of wine in the comfort of the outdoor deck, could just be what the doctor ordered for you this Christmas holidays. There are many many beach walks and bush walks, easy for kids and big kids too.
Grabbing some take away fish and chips from Tarwin Lower or cook your own and take to the beach and watch the sun set, is just nature at work, as the kids frolic around in the shallows as the sun sets.
We have outdoor blinds on all windows, we also have a split system for heating and cooling, and a couple of pedestal fans, and three wall fans. Smoke alarms, safety switch, fully fenced garden to keep children and dogs in. Plenty of onsite parking inside the gate. Still a great garden for kids to swing a cricket bat, or kick a footy, and for the dog to run around on.
