The Miners Nest, a period home with an Art Deco theme is situated in Barrys Reef, a small mining town 90km from Melbourne, only a short drive to popular Daylesford, Hepburn, Trentham, Kyneton and Macedon regions.
Set on 1.2 acres of gardens with the Wombat State Forest as its backdrop, the Miner’s Nest is a warm and welcoming family home with a touch of ArtDeco glamour and countless vintage nick knacks and relics the owners have collected over the years.
Whilst staying at the Miner’s Nest you won’t find a TV in the living room, but what you will find to pass the time are couches and arm chairs to bask in the morning sun and watch the wildlife through the large lounge room windows, cupboards stocked with board games, an assortment of books and an extensive record collection to enjoy whilst sitting by the Coonara fire – a rare opportunity in our technology-centred lives to relax and reconnect with family, friends and nature
The fully equipped kitchen with black granite bench top offers an abundance of appliances including a coffee machine and dishwasher and a Weber Q BBQ is just outside on the patio. With indoor and outdoor dining options, guests have the choice to enjoy a home cooked meal or dine out in nearby Trentham or Blackwood.
Of the home’s three bedrooms, two offer queen sized beds and the third bedroom is set up as a children’s room, with three single beds, a roll away mattress to accommodate an 8th guest as well as a Playstation/DVD player, books and toys to keep younger guests amused.
The main bathroom is complete with stunning claw footed bath, double vanity and toilet, and W-class tram seat. The laundry area contains a shower and separate second toilet.
To ensure guests’ comfort in the cooler months, in addition to the Coonara wood heater the home features hydronic heating with panels in all rooms, a reverse cycle air conditioning/heating unit in the main living room as well as electric blankets on all 5 beds and loads of warm blankets.
Paper, fire lighters and some kindling/wood for the Coonara wood heater and fire pit for the first night of your stay are provided. If you wish to use the Coonara or fire pit for the duration of your stay the owners kindly ask you to supply additional wood.
The house not only has a sunny deck area ideal for listening to birds and enjoying the leafy garden, but a front verandah and a paved back patio area with fire pit, perfect for roasting marshmallows in the Winter months. Outdoors younger guests can enjoy the trampoline and swing set, use their imaginations in the ‘cubby house’, climb trees in the expansive grounds or search the neighbouring forest for evidence of the town's gold rush history.
