Set in the 12 acre grounds of our historic home, “Claremont” circa 1857, the Coach House is a two storey, historic, self-contained cottage. Located a mile or so from the centre of Castlemaine, it combines rural peace with the all the activities available in this popular and historic area only an hour and a quarter from Melbourne.

The Coach House has a lovely feel of times past, but has all the conveniences of today. It consists of five rooms and an upstairs tree-top balcony, comfortably sleeps six people, but has extra sleeping facilities for two more people if required.

The tariff for stays of a week, or more can be negotiated. Children are welcome and pets can be accommodated by arrangement.

The Garden Cottage

This is a cozy bed-sitter with ensuite, situated closer to the main house. It has a double bed, gas pot belly stove, T.V. etc. There are limited cooking facilities, i.e. a toaster, electric jug, microwave, fridge and a breakfast basket can be provided at a small extra cost.

March 2008 Family from England. It was a fantastic time and we found a baby cat We named her Osca, so if anyone finds the cat don\'t be scared, she\'s very loving. I also think Helen is keeping her Helen did keep her, but she is called Maow now, because Hunter our grandson insisted. She has been promoted to the big house.

Dec 2008 Great beds, even though Ella talked in her sleep, everyone slept well, Great house, nice dog. Which one is the dog?

April 2009 Ballarat couple. \"Oh the glory of gold quiet upon the fence tops, streaming through the gums. The clean chill through sun births air. The soft crackle of hay beneath my slippered feet. The relaxed laugh of a crow overhead. sweet childhood is here. everywhere

May 2009 Hurstbridge family A great stay Lovely place and friendly hosts fantastic valueI have to admit that this is family and they stayed for free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming Coach House We loved our very short stay at Claremont. It is a quaint, rustic house set on the most beautiful property. We saw a kangaroo about 20 metres from our cottage. It is well equipped and the recently built deck will be lovely in the warmer months. Our dogs loved the stay although we had to keep them on leads as there is plenty to tempt an adventurous dog. Helen greeted us and showed us how to operate the heating and then we felt it was quite private despite being located about 20 metres from the main house. The property is very rural but only a couple of kilometres to the main part of town. We hope to return for a bit longer than one night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A piece of history & a photographers delight We enjoyed our stay at Claremont Coach House. It is a simple accomodation that reminds you of yesteryear. We chose to stay here to give the kids a taste of the country & the way people use to live; it was everything it promised to be. The kids loved feeding the horses and exploring the property & we enjoyed visiting the local botanical gardens, that are in walking distance. The property is comfortable & welcoming with beautiful surrounding and we were grateful we could bring our dog along for the experience. The hosts were very helpful and attentive with great recommendations of places to visit in the area. Thank-you, we hope to be back.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent property Stayed for 3 nights, the room is very comfortable and while there is no kitchen there were enough facilities to make simple meals. The hosts were friendly and helpful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A piece of history Our family of four were quite intrigued by this property for its history and quirkiness. We enjoyed our one night stay and the girls simply loved the fact they had bunk beds to sleep in, as that was a novelty for them. The kitchen was comfortable and even though we didn't use the lounge room it appeared cosy. The perfect place to be if it was a cold winter's night as there was a wood heater. One thing that bothered the peace for me personally were the very noisy frogs, which echoed so loudly I felt like they were in the house! I found it difficult to get to sleep as a result. However, the property is quite big and away from the main town centre although I also heard the train pass after we went to bed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quirky accommodation in a beautiful setting The old coach house/stables for the adjacent house has been converted for accommodation. As such, the coach house is not luxurious or slick. But it is ideal if you're looking for a quaint and private cottage. The bathroom is fairly basic but adequate. No bath tub. The large, country-style kitchen is comfortable and includes a small washing machine. There are no food supplies except tea, plunger coffee and basic condiments, so you'll need to bring everything. Along with a wood stove (plenty of firewood is freely available), the property is heated by a gas heater and aircon upstairs in the spacious and comfortable main bedroom. I would recommend this property for a couple or maybe a small family rather than 2 couples because the lower bedroom is quite small and has bunk beds. It's adequate but the upper bedroom is much more comfortable. Be aware that the upper bedroom is a loft and the lower bedroom has a lace curtain instead of a door so privacy is somewhat limited in the house. If travelling as a group of friends, it might be more comfortable to book the adjacent small studio cottage as well. The location is a fair walk from the centre of Castlemaine but close to the botanical gardens, which is nice for a walk. There's a rural feel to the property which is very peaceful. Kids would enjoy the property and the resident ponies. The owners, Ian and Helen, live in the adjacent house and are welcoming owners who don't invade your space. Castlemaine itself is a charming and vibrant historic country town with plenty to keep you occupied. We enjoyed our stay.
