Mereweather Estate Cottage at Dunkeld, is a part of the Southern Grampians, Victoria, Australia offering a unique country experience.
Our cottage is located on the brow of the hill over looking Mount Sturgeon. It has the most amazing views, where you can look straight up Mt Sturgeon, across to Piccaninny and then Mt Abrupt, with the Wannon River weaving around the river red gums at the base of the mountain, all this only 200 meters from the cottage.
A feature of our cottage is being able to observe all the wildlife that abounds around the cottage, kangaroos, emus, and lots of bird life can be seen from either the deck in front of the cottage or in the warm comfort of the wood heater inside while looking out the full length floor to ceiling windows of both the living area and main bedroom.
You can watch the sun set to the West while the kangaroos and birds come to drink at the waterholes in the river. All this peace and quiet, but with good cafes and coffee only a 10 minute walk away in the main street of Dunkeld, which also offers the fine dining of the Royal Mail Hotel.
Share a little of Dunkeld’s history, the 10 hectares around the cottage have been in the Mereweather family for more than 150 years. You can walk around the brow of the hill, sit on the rocks and watch nature at its best. This is a great place for the artist or photographer. The cottage has a Queen bed in the main bedroom and two singles in the second bedroom, all linen and furniture is good quality.
We do have a no smoking policy within the cottage.
There is plenty of room for children to ride bikes and play ball games around the cottage, a well behaved small dog is welcome, but must not be left unattended as there are sheep in the paddock.
We are well situated as a base for exploring the Grampians National Park, visiting local Waterfalls, or a trip to the Coast only an hour away. There are plenty of great walking trails, both in Dunkeld and in the mountains.
We can also offer you Breakfast baskets, please ask us for details.
