Rated 5 out of 5 by from How's the serenity!! What a wonderful place to stay - we came for the Dunkeld Races and had a ball - Clean, roomy, comfortable accommodation and it had everything we needed. Had pre-race drinks out in the beautiful cottage garden before our day at the races....we'll be back :) thanks Stan

Rated 5 out of 5 by from All good Very neat, tidy, spacious and comfortable accommodation. Arrived on a cold, wet night and owner had kindly put slow combustion wood fire on so house was warm in advance of our arrival. Only recommendation would be that there was no tea, coffee or milk provided so if that's important to you you may want to bring it with you, but as far as accommodation goes was very comfortable and hard to fault, and a great location.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Overall okay We had a few issues with our stay. Firstly the safety switch for the power kept switching off. When we contacted the owner he was unable to assist us and didn't bother to check in with us to see if we sorted it out which was disappointing. We finally worked out it was the fan for the wood heater. We unplugged the fan and just had to use it without the fan which was less than ideal given it's a cold house and the area gets below zero. A couple of rooms have separate heating which is good. The house has pretty much everything you'll need but you don't have access to the laundry and the hot water runs out really quickly. There weren't any champagne glasses so would recommend that you bring your own. We couldn't locate a vacuum cleaner or mop so couldn't really keep it very clean or leave it very clean. We also couldn't locate the garbage or recycling bins. The owner provided good wood for the fire and also kindling. The property was clean and very pet friendly. The views are spectacular from with in and outside the house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The Mouse House We were so looking forward to our 2 night stay in Dunkeld which was to be centered around Bernie’s Retreat. Communication with Stan was warm and friendly in the lead up to our stay and we were looking forward to enjoying the home, the views and native animals in their natural environment. We arrived to a very freshly cleaned house with a simply appointed kitchen, just enough to get by cooking for ourselves. Within an hour of arrival though it became clear to us that some animals were also making themselves at home IN the home. With mouse droppings discovered in our bags and on the kitchen bench after leaving that section of the house to bath our children we began to think that we may have a problem. That became evident when a mouse started to use the kitchen as a highway and the toaster tray as a snack bar. As it was too late to find new accommodation in the early evening, and that fact that we weren’t scared of ONE little mouse, we put our kids to bed and decided to move all of the food and our cases into the car, just to be safe. Before 9pm there were at least 5 mice spotted running throughout the kitchen and living area- they were so active that we didn’t turn on the TV. They were our entertainment for the night. We sent Stan a message to inform him of the mouse situation, that we would be staying that night only and requested a refund for night two. Thinking that the mice were confined to the living areas of the house we headed to bed for what we hoped was a refreshing sleep. Sleep did not come. What did come was the mice. Into the bedrooms. They spent the entire night running the corridors, using the bedside tables as climbing frames and at 2am I was shocked to find a mouse scratching my head and nesting into my hair. At that point we requested a refund for that night as well due to the house being completely inappropriate for sleeping! We cleaned up and left the house before 8:30am the next day and continued to message Stan with our movements. On that day we received no messages from Stan and he did not answer our phone call. This was in stark contrast to his usual punctual communication before arriving at the house and expressing any concerns. The next day, Stan replied to our sms asking for our bank details to transfer our refund and explaining that mice do come inside at that time of year ‘do’ to the cold nights and that some poison free traps had been set. This was the last communication that we received from Stan. Phone calls went unanswered from my mobile and unlisted numbers. He did not reply to any further sms’s from us. We politely messaged him some time later that we would have expected to have received our refund by that time and that we would take action if payment was not made by the following day. We resorted to contacting our bank and requesting a charge back on our credit card, and on providing evidence- photos of the house, screenshots of our communication (and then silence) with Stan and an explanation of our experience, we have been granted our refund. We were understanding that Stan may not have realised the extent of the mouse problem in the house and were hoping to write a review that spoke of a beautiful home with an understanding and honest host who kept his word and provided the refund as he said he would. Instead, we would advise others against staying here, not because of the mice which we are sure will not be present all year round, but because if an issue does arise, Stan will no longer communicate with you and you will be out of pocket. We will no longer use Stayz after this experience as there is no opportunity offered through them to mediate or to act on either the home owner or renters behalf.
