Wander along Ford Street for many different gold rush era buildings, including banks, storefronts and private homes. Prospectors came to Beechworth from far and wide to strike it rich. To find out about the gold rush story through the eyes of Chinese immigrants, visit the Chinese Cultural Centre Museum.

For a more gruesome side of history, head to the Beechworth Lunatic Asylum for ghost tours after dark. During the day, you can join a history or photography tour in the asylum’s expansive gardens. For more thrills and chills, watch a horror film onsite.

Next, make your way from Lake Kerfed to Lake Sambell, where you’ll be able to see a number of bird species and animals. The park was once an important mining site, with old shafts throughout it.

A short drive from Beechworth is Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, home to the well known Woolshed Falls and Spring Creek, once the heart of the area’s gold rush. Head to a lookout over the falls or walk along the rocks in the creek where gold miners once worked.
