Reidford Cottage takes its name from the Reidford Hotel which was one of eight Hotels in the Sebastapol area in the late 1880’s during the Gold Rush period. The nearby river crossing to Byrne Gully Road is named after the family of Joe Byrne that lived there. He was a member of bushranger Ned Kelly’s gang . During the 1880’s there was a settlement of approximately 3000 mining for gold in this area.
We have 40 acres of bushland adjacent to the Chiltern/Mt Pilot National Park and the cottage is part of our home property, secluded from the road. Breakfast on your own balcony and be entertained by the birds. The kangaroos, birds and other native animals find safety and peace in their surroundings and are well used to sharing their space with humans. Consequently we have the rare opportunity of watching them rear their young at close quarters.
Our cosy cottage is compact and comfortable. Ideal for a couple or family with up to 2 children. There is a queen size bed and a small bunk room for 2 children, modern bathroom and kitchen. Outside barbecue, TV, indoor and outdoor eating areas.
At Reidford we practice sustainability and are not connected to the electricity grid or reticulated town water. We have a stand alone solar power system and water is provided by dams and rainwater tanks. The cottage is comfortably heated in winter with gas heating, and air conditioned in summer. There are numerous walks on the property and along tracks the adjacent National Park. The tracks in the National Park are great for Mountain Biking. Nearby Reedy Creek is a popular spot for gold panning.
We are 15mins to the fabulous restaurants and shopping of Beechworth or 30 mins to Milawa and the Wine and Food trail. Bike hire is available in Beechworth making this an ideal holiday spot for people who love the outdoors.
We have a small friendly dog which has the run of the property and we would advise guests that they should be comfortable with having a dog around.
OUR DOGS/PETS POLICY As dog owners we enjoy traveling with our dog and welcome guest's dogs; subject to a few reasonable conditions. If fully house trained, small to medium sized dogs are free to go inside the cottage and to sleep on their own bedding. Dogs are not allowed on bedding or furniture. We prefer that large dogs are accommodated on the enclosed front deck. We do NOT provide a kennelling service and dogs are NOT to be left behind when guests go out. Please advise us of the number and breed of dogs that you wish to bring when inquiring. We also request that guests do not allow their dogs to harass wildlife. Cats must be kept in a cage whilst outside because we have abundant birdlife , and while inside to avoid damage to furniture. We also ask that, before booking, intending guests advise whether they seek to bring exotic pets.
Intending guests should also be sympathetic to the notion of living sustainably.
