Mindarie Keys: Relax by the Waterfront

Perth’s beachfront suburb of Mindarie Keys offers a wide range of activities for holidaymakers, both on and off shore. Most of the action takes places at the Marina, which has its own craft brewery. This is also where you can pick up gear and go diving, kayaking or fishing.

Further inland, Mindarie’s shopping mall provides plenty of options for retail therapy. If you’d like to escape civilization for a bit, wander along a 28 km trail within the neighbouring national park. Last but not least, families travelling to Mindarie have access to a dozen parks and playgrounds.

Holiday rentals in Mindarie Keys include townhouses with ocean views, apartments close to the shops and family homes steps from green spaces.

Mindarie’s Waterfront Action

Explore the waters around Mindarie by hiring a boat for the day. Venture off for some deep sea fishing, whale watching, or simply a leisurely cruise. Diving tours depart Mindarie, headed for the Alkimos wrecks just 9 km from the coast.

If you’d prefer sticking closer to shore, hire a kayak and navigate your way around the waters of the lively marina. Back on shore, join a beach volleyball game or soccer tournament on the sand.

Just a short way from the marina, you will find Claytons Beach an uncrowded stretch of fine white sand. Stroll for kilometres or do some surfing, but be careful, as this beach is not patrolled. Burns Beach, a bit further down the coast, is a starting point for several walking trails.

Shopping and Entertainment

Mindarie is just steps from Ocean Keys Shopping Centre, one of the 10 largest malls in the country, housing 120 big name retailers. The mall staff organise activities throughout the year for children and adults alike. There are arts & crafts workshops and storytelling for the kids, and cooking classes and other themed meetups for the adults.

In the evenings, the marina’s venues host live music events, ranging from DJ events to more classical music nights, with something going on almost every day. While you’re at the marina, sample craft beer at the brewery or have a meal overlooking the water at one of the cafes. Throughout the year, the marina is a base for local festivals, with a focus on foodie events.

Neerabup National Park

Just beyond Mindarie is a narrow stretch of national park, called Neerabup. The reserve is 12 km long and encompasses a section of an old migration trail used by the region’s Indigenous People. Today, travellers can recreate the journey for themselves but trekking along the Yaberoo Budjara Trail.

This is the only track in the park, running for 28 km through native bushland and going well beyond Neerabup National Park’s limits. This is a challenging trail, suitable for strong walkers only. As you walk, you might be able to spot wildlife, such a possums and other small marsupials, and many different bird species.
