The Perth Hills offers amazing walk trails, spectacular State forest, arts, history and culture - all within a 40-minute drive from the Perth city. Mount Helena is one of 11 distinct villages within the Shire of Mundaring which covers an area of 644sqkm of which one-third is State Forest. Other villages include Darlington, Glen Forrest, Mahogany Creek, Mundaring, Stoneville, Parkerville, Sawyers Valley, Chidlow, Wooroloo and Helena Valley. The villages are steeped in a rich history, closely linked by the old railway line that is now the fabulous Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretching some 59kms through the shire.

Delight in the art and culture in the villages of Perth Hills, linked by the old railway line like bright beads on a thread. The steam engines and sleepers are long gone now, with horse riders, trail walkers and cyclists enjoying the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail. There's something about the air up here that means you'll often find yourself stopping for a chat with friendly walkers and continue on your way smiling. Mundaring Shire is also a place to encounter some of Western Australia's fascinating history, including the startlingly beautiful Mundaring Weir and CY O'Connor's famous pipeline that has been supplying water to Kalgoorlie for over 100 years.

For solo-adventurers or couples leaving the stress of metropolitan life behind for a weekend or a week, whittle away hours in one of our secluded and famous picnic spots, or take a very long walk with space and time to ponder life without the noise of the inner-city. Step away from the pressures of urban life and enjoy time with your family amongst the tall timber and verdant spaces of Mount Helena and surrounds.

Just 40 minutes from Perth CBD, the Perth Hills is a place where you can immerse yourself in nature. No need to trek down south to find the deep spaces of forest and farmland. Simply take a dreamy drive through green pasture and paddock, or walk some of the amazing scenic and historic trails, or throw down a picnic blanket and while away a sunny afternoon in one of the national parks.

You'll feel yourself breathe out as you come up the hill to discover the Perth Hills – it's the spot you'll feel your pulse slow down, where you can delight in the outdoors with all the conveniences of modern life and some of Perth's best cafes and wineries just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Come to the Perth Hills for the weekend and go exploring. Browse an art gallery or take a tasting at a boutique winery. Unearth the best value parmie-and-pint under the eucalypts at the local Mount Helena Tavern, a short 100 metre stroll through the forest from Station House and fall into your bed for the night in this beautiful location. The Perth Hills has a rich range of art and culture, cute gift shops, and cafes and restaurants, just waiting for you to enjoy.

The Heart of the Perth Hills offers a diverse range of exciting events including the Mundaring Sunday Markets held on the second Sunday of each month. Mundaring Shire is also home to beautiful Lake Leschenaultia, the Karakamia Wildlife Sanctuary, and Perth Hills Discovery Centre. For families, these places provide the kind of education your kids can only get by a hands-on adventure – they'll still be talking about it next year.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming country cottage Station House is wonderful and perfectly situated to the local amenities and also next to the Heritage Trial and Golden Pipeline. Full of character and presented to a high standard retaining lots of original features. The grounds kept our 2 dogs amused for hours and were perfectly safe. Thank you very much Sharon, we will be back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent property Very comfortable, with a great mix of the old and new. The bathrooms and kitchen were modern which is ideal, and the rest I think was over 100 years old, but beautifully restored. Minor things; I could not get the CD player and DVD player to work, and both toilet seats need tightening, because they move around too much. Stick on flyscreens on the back doors would be good. I was disappointed that there was no information about the history of this house when you walk in. The Historical Society in Mundaring had a bit of information, and a newspaper article from 1991 that spoke about it being built in the late 1800's. They would be happy to help the owner with information if they wanted. We would definitely stay again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Historically charming! Although a wet w/ end we all had a great time ... We were very cosy once we lit the fires. It s closeness to all the surrounding wee villages & all have a country pub & Mt Helena pub is just a short walk across the bush!!...is a bonus!!We were lucky to find Chidlow with it's market day on .....3rd SAT of the month. There were just a minor probs , but these didn't detract from our overall stay.I would definitely stay there again. Thanks Sharon .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charming is an understatement Beautiful little house! a mix of old traditional colonial with a splash of modern new age. With a walk trail on your front door step and a back yard shrouded with a wonderful garden, not much else you could ask for in a lovely little getaway. High ceilings and gorgeous floorboards made it a little bit chilly ( already expected when you're up in the hills) but the wood fire made the house toasty and was a great suprise. Had a five month old baby with us and he was comfortable and happy the whole time and so were we. truely was a treat! plus the bathroom in the main ensuite, that bath.. well it was hard not to spend all day in it! property was clean and equipped.
