Welcome to Frankland River Retreat… Just a few hours’ drive south of Perth, discover our beautiful homestead set on a picturesque 83 acres, with the Frankland River flowing along its boundary.

Birdwatching paradise, and perfect for a weekend getaway or family holiday, Frankland River Retreat is an ideal base to explore the Great Southern. Guests are welcome to explore the whole property and experience rural life in this beautiful part of Western Australia.

Life unplugged

Research shows less screen time and more green time reduces stress and improves sleep. At Frankland River Retreat you really can unplug your life and get back to nature. Escape to the country

Nestled in one of Western Australia’s premier wine regions in the heart of the picturesque Great Southern, our secluded holiday homestead has all the comforts of home.

Accommodation includes a fully equipped open plan kitchen and laundry. Relax with a DVD in front of the wood burner in winter, or watch the sun go down from the veranda in summer. The homestead has three generous bedrooms all bed linen is provided a bathroom with separate toilet and best of all, a sun room to enjoy all year round, with sweeping views across the property.

Frankland River Retreat is located in a place of great natural beauty. It’s perfectly placed for day trips to Albany, Denmark, Pemberton, Walpole, Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk, Stirling Range National Park, Bluff Knoll, the Porongurup National Park, and the beautiful Frankland River is close at hand.

Good to know…

Pack up the Furkids and head for Frankland River

We love pets too… Frankland River Retreat is pet friendly, so your well behaved dog is as welcome as you are. We’ve even created a large fenced off area for them to enjoy. Please be aware that at certain times of the year there are sheep in the fields. At these times, please keep dogs on a leash and take care not to disturb them.


Because everyone loves a good old Aussie BBQ, the homestead has a gas barbeque on the veranda for guests to use. Bushfires are an ever-present danger in rural Australia, so lighting fires anywhere on the property is strictly prohibited.

Food Shopping

Part of the Frankland River Retreat charm is its seclusion. This means there are no supermarkets or corner shops nearby. A general store is located 15kms in Frankland, and there are IGA supermarkets in Kojonup or Mount Barker.

Household linen

For your convenience we supply bed linen, a hand towel and bath towels. Please bring your own towels for swimming or the beach.


The homestead is fully equipped for a self-catering holiday. There is a family sized fridge, gas stove, electric oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, saucepans, frying pans, crockery, glasses, cutlery and kitchen utensils. Do you have a coffee machine? The lounge room has a wood burning stove, wood is stored near the house. The games room has a table tennis table with bats and ping-pong balls.

Can I bring a dog?

Yes - We love dogs and due to many enquires we advertise as pet friendly.

But only allow dogs at the main house

There is fencing surrounding the house so dogs have plenty of space too.

Do we need to bring towels?

Yes - Although linen & bath towels are provided per person, we recommend you bring your own personal towels

Are there any shops or supermarkets nearby?

A general store is located in local town of Frankland 14Km from the house.

The nearest IGA supermarket's are in Kojonup & Mount Barker.

Can we go for walks on the property?

Yes -Please be mindful at certain times of the year there are sheep in the field.

I have a big family can extra people stay?

Please request for additional people prior to booking.

Is there free wifi at the house.

Currently there is no wifi available -However Telstra mobile 4G works at the house.

Can i enjoy myself?

Stuff to Do For Kids -There's plenty of space for them to run about and for that little extra fun.Bring your tent, camp out, go for walks, hide & seek, relax or runabout making your own adventures.

For the grown ups .....Spend your evenings on the veranda with a BBQ, enjoying a glass of the local wine.

Frankland River has plenty of friendly wineries with visiting cellars, Alkoomi, Ferngrove and Frankland Estate, call into one for wine tasting and local produce.

Please check wineries for opening times as cellar doors are by appointment for Ferngrove & Frankland Estate.

Alkoomi winery has cellar door available 7 days per week.

Guest have the house privately to themselves.

A four digit access code for key lock box is sent to your prior to your stay with Instructions.
