salrye is a unique eco friendly straw bale studio situated near Gnarabup Beach and was completed in Jan. 2014 by the owner/designer ,local skilled tradesman and artisans.
The studio is a 10 minute drive from Margaret River township, if you would like to to try local produce from the farmer's market or wineries or check the internationally awarded galleries at the bottom of town near the River.
The studio features half meter thick lime rendered walls and north facing floor to ceiling windows so in summer the long eaves exclude the sun's rays,the walls keep the inside cool and the seabreeze naturally flows through the house.
In winter the lower sun streams well into the house and the warmth is retained by the floor and walls making it a wonderfully comfortable enviroment for guests year round.
The large bedroom/ensuite has french doors leading out to a north facing secluded paved verandah /courtyard with table and chairs in a native garden setting,perfect for alfresco breakfast or lunch. PLEASE NOTE This is a one bedroom studio. Extra guests use sofa bed in the lounge area.
.The living area also has French doors leading out to the northern deck with bar b que ,herb/vege garden and succulent plants in a rockery.
The sofa in the lounge converts to a bed with inner spring mattress for additional guests. Extra guests are charged $30 each per night.
The west deck catches the seabreeze and has a remarkable set of re-claimed
Indian Cedar antique entrance doors.
The kitchen is fitted with stainless steel appliances and is equipped with a great variety of top of the range cookware and crockery., ideal for sampling the local produce from the farmer's market and wineries.
Step out of the Cedar bathroom door to a secluded outdoor shower ,great for rinsing yourself and bathers after a pre- breakfast swim at one of many beaches within walking distance
The owners Gordon and Ashesha have traveled extensively and worked abroad and this is reflected in the quality and range of international ,local and reclaimed fittings and furniture such as Moroccan lamps,Middle Eastern rugs,Indian sari curtains and locally sourced hand crafted Marri benchtops in the kitchen and bathroom
The linen is bamboo or Egyptian cotton, the doonas are down and feather.
All laundry is done on the premises, not in an Industrial laundry.
Beach towels supplied on request.
The driveway has room for 2 to 3 cars and or a boat boat ramp 5 minutes drive
salrye is within walking distance of one of the few protected beautiful beaches in Margaret River
Literally down the road there are quality white sand and reef swimming,diving and fishing beaches.with an excellent cafe nestled into the southern headland.
Walking/ riding trails go from Gnarabup all the way to the wonderful vistas of Surfer's Point and the mouth of the pristine Margaret River with many dog friendly beaches on the way.
An award winning restaurant ,the Gnarabar ,is a 5 minute walk away for dinner or to try the local beers and wines during the early evening happy hour
At least 8 world class surfing breaks are a 5 minute drive from salrye's doorstep.These include hollow beachbreaks, points and outer reef bombies suitable for professionals to beginners.
The Cape to Cape Track can be easily and quickly accessed so if you feel like being pampered after a day's trek the choice is there.
If you would like to borrow a bike there are many forest and beach trails nearby.
The owners Ashesha and Gordon are there to assist if needed
Both owners are ex English language teachers in Perth universities and overseas so if international guests need language assistance or specific programmes eg IELTS they can be arranged.
Ashesha has extensive experience and a passion for international cuisine, having run cafes in London and Fremantle so if guests would prefer a home cooked breakfast or lunch hampers special diets catered for just ask,-especially on weekends
Gordon is a local canoe /wine tour guide and keen surfer so if you need information or advice in these areas please feel free to ask.
