Windy Harbour is a quaint seaside hamlet located inside the D'Entrecastreaux National Park. Being inside a national park gives Windy some unique features with there being no mains power or mobile phone reception giving your a true escape but if you require a phone there is a pay phone located at the park or if you wish you can drive up to the cliffs and get a mobile phone receptionTelstra whilst enjoying the stunning views of the Southern Ocean. Windy Harbour is a collection of holiday house's without fences, no paved roads and a feeling of time gone by. There is a caretakers shop with limited suppliesbait/bread/milk with Northcliffe being a 20 min away.
The Barefoot Beach House is a lovely 3 bedroom house with self sufficient solar so you can have most of the comforts of home including an electric fridge, washing machine, gas hot water, gas hot plate, gas oven, Jarrahdale slow combustion fire for the cool evenings. We ask that no electrical appliances with heating elements be brought with you as the system will not work with high wattage equipment eg Hair dryers, Straighteners, Electric Heaters. You have a choice of either the front or rear verandah to unwind and relax on and in the evenings there is a fire pit in the back yard to gather around and chat. There is parking for 2 cars or 1 car with a boat. The main bedroom has a queen, the second has a double and the third bedroom having a set of bunk beds with the house comfortably sleeping six. All you need to bring is your linen/towels , food and of coarse your fishing rods if you wish to catch your dinner.
Things to do
Being located inside the D'Entrecastreaux National Park you have numerous examples of natures beauty to explore. From the house you can take long walks on the beaches or take the Coastal Survivors walk which starts at the playground and works its way to Cathedral rock then up a moderate walk up to the top of the cliffs which is Point D'Entrecasteaux and a informative walk around the lighthouse with detours to natures window.
Scenic drive from the house up to Point D'Entrecastreaux you will see Salmon Beach, Sunset look out, Gardner look out and Tookalup look out which hangs over the edge of the cliffs offering stunning views of the cliffs and Salmon Beach.
A short 10 min drive gets you to Mount Chudalup which if your feeling game can climb and get views all the way back to Windy and of the coastal heathlands, In winter there are great examples of native wild flowers and a gas bbq area is provided.
For the keen 4wder there are many areas to explore with the beach at windy, the mouth of the Gardner River, Summertime Track which takes you to Malimup beach. Further a field is Warren Beach with Calcup dune, Yeagarup Dunes, Moores hut at Coodamurrup Beach and many forrest tracks between Northcliffe and Pemberton
Windy is a great base to explore from with the Genuinely Southern Forrest food region at your door with Northcliffe, Pemberton, Manijimup all with in 1 hours drive and Walpole being only 1.5hrs with some of the most stunning scenery to see.
