About Berry

Nestled amongst rolling emerald hills with the Cambewarra Range has a backdrop Berry is a uniquely beautiful rural town. With a population of 1500 people, Berry is a service town supplying the needs of the surrounding farming community. Located less than two hours south of Sydney on the Princes Highway, Berry is a remarkable weekend getaway.

Berry: Vintage Inland Charm

Nestled in the Cambewarra Range of the South Coast, Berry is a chic yet quaint village with a growing reputation as a holiday hotspot. Berry is a foodie’s paradise, with award winning restaurants serving the best regional produce, and acres of vines just a stone’s throw from the main street.

The small town is big on events, hosting a yearly agricultural show, with activities for the whole family, as well as a monthly arts, crafts and produce market. If you’d rather spend your time trekking through coastal forests, you can do easily, with Berry as your holiday base.

Self-contained rentals around Berry include rural retreats with vineyard views, stylish apartments in the town centre and sprawling mansions in the countryside.

Take your pick of eateries showcasing the region’s produce and ingredients. Most of Berry’s cafes, casual diners and upscale venues can be found clustered on Albert and Queen Streets.

Don’t forget to pair your dinner with a glass of local wine. There are several vineyards in the outskirts of town, which you can also visit. Many wine tours depart Berry on a daily basis, taking you to several vineyards in the area and sharing the region’s history and heritage with you.

Berry may be a rural community, but there’s always something going on. Throughout the year, visitors can venture over to the Sunday markets, which occur on the first weekend of each month. Browse the stalls to purchase homemade goods, arts and crafts and even fresh produce.

In February, Berry hosts the Agricultural and Horticultural Show, with activities for everyone in the the family. You’ll be able to watch cattle shows and rodeos, cheer on wood chopping contestants and even witness dog high jump contests. Smaller festivals add to Berry’s events calendar, including musical performances, garden contests and art shows.

Discover the Berry Area through Walks and Tours

Berry was the first country town to be established in New South Wales, south of Sydney. A number of original buildings dating back to the early 19th century still grace the town’s streets.

Find out more about them, and Berry’s history, by setting foot on the Heritage Walk. You will stroll past the first post office and hotel, and many other heritage-listed buildings. For details about each property, stop at the Berry Museum.

If you’d like to go further and faster than on foot, hire a Segway. There are many Segway tours through Berry and in the surrounding area, letting you discover the region’s forest and wetlands, as well as the town centre, with a local guide.

Natural Escapes near Berry

A short drive from Berry, Seven Mile Beach National Park awaits. As the park’s name would suggest, it is home to an expansive stretch of sand that really does run for 7 miles. The beach is ideal for swimming, or simply for walking along the golden sand. It is backed by a lush forest, where you will be able to spot a wide array of birdlife. There are grassy areas and clearings, ideal for picnicking, and placid water holes for fishing.

The park is criss-crossed with walking trails; notably, the Sand Track, which is split into north and south sections and passes through seemingly untouched forest before winding back to the oceanfront. Venture along the trails on your own or join a group tour. Several operators even organise excursions specifically for children and families, and a variety of eco tours for all.
