We all loved Desmond House.
We all loved Desmond House. It was roomy upstairs and down with two large bedrooms and a comfy single room and tastefully decorated throughout. The kitchen has all you will need. Roadside parking (on a quiet road) was fine though you can also park on the driveway but then you may have to backout onto the road. It is close to the local fish shop (we recommend) but you will have to walk uphill on your return. For our provisions we went to Bishop Auckland where you will find all you need for a family shop. We brought our bikes and enjoyed both the walks and cycle rides in the area....if the sun shines it is beautiful. if you want to eat out the local pubs do good sunday lunches etc but we would recommend a small Spanish restaurant at Stanhope!

A lovely cottage, beautifully clean and well equipped.
A lovely cottage, beautifully clean and well equipped. WiFi works very well. It is a short walk to amenities in the village but it's quite steep walking back. We had a great time helped by good weather. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Wonderful spacious home, the owners have completely refurbished the house and put a lot of thought into making it feel like a home from home. Exceptionally clean and so very comfortable which made it such a pleasurable to stay. We were lucky to have had good weather so got the best of every thing but I’m sure even on a wet miserable day the house is so nice that we would have still enjoyed our stay. A short walk to the village centre that has one of the best butchers and also a very good restaurant also meant we did not need to use the car too much. There are some wonderful walks on the doorstep with the Bowless visitor centre only 1hr 40min walk away following the river path.
