Very pretty location, really lovely gardens - very large, ideal for our dog. The walls in the property were quite thin, making sleeping an interesting experience. The area of Hon Fluer is great, but extremely busy. If you do have a dog and we would recommend the vet in Hon Fluer for the return visit back to the UK.
Sorry, From 10+ cig butts in the barbecue to no electric on ( we had to find the mains switch and set it to on, not a good situ for any guest to be in),when we arrived after a 10 hour journey, meant no hot water for a bath or shower!!not a great start.
Not so good points:
Accom very old fashioned and needing a complete overhaul.
1 x Light bulbs not working in downstairs light arrays
Badly fitted cheap laminate flooring with too many gaps (which isn’t ( hygienic )to count , upstairs and down.
Skirting board not fitted to wall on one side of kitchen. The blind at the back of the kitchen rolled down ok, but getting it back up was just tragically difficult, it needs a new blind in my opinion,
Stairs VERY steep, and unsafe in my opinion, with all those gaps between steps and only 1 handrail
We are fit well travelled 60+ years old but, just couldn’t manage getting our suitcases upstairs so had to leave them down stairs as they were so steep.
Bedroom curtains )which were very thin and light, so dawn woke us up) also surprised there were not sun protection curtains to block the summer sun to stop the room getting too hot, though this time of year it didn’t affect us so this is a suggestion).
The curtain was hanging off the curtain pole at the end in the main bedroom, window very, very stiff to open/close and in the smaller bedroom, we tried to open it but bits of the frame started falling off so stopped trying.
The bathroom, dark and damp not surprising as no window or extractor fan. It was to be honest very poor, cobbled together bath frontage , broken floor tiles, cracked toilet rim!! Mirror to the side of the sink, looks because the light was fitted too low above the sink, also a live electric socket directly below(butted against) the light switch!! could be easy for someone with damp hands in the dark to get a shock!! Never seen anything so dangerous before anywhere abroad.
The tap base shower unit really wasn’t clean and also caked in limescale by the look of it, sit in the bath and have a look.
The WiFi I did raise the problems with it on day 2 but never had a reply, mainly the WiFi box not available and when it was the wifi code handwritten in the welcome book, just would not be accepted. I must have tried 20+ times over the week and also tried using lower case letter instead of the notated upper case letters. Local shop closed all week, school buses at the back from 0700, +tractors up and down.
Given we based our decision to stay here on previous reviews, we feel it only right to contribute our own experience of staying at this property.
First, communication with the owners was difficult, with chasing up of responses to email enquiries required and a curt response received to a simple enquiry about availability of a highchair.
First impressions of the cottage was disappointing. The 'well manicured lawns' advertised were in fact overgrown, the patio flowers were dead and we were greeted with a dead mouse on the grass outside our cottage. We let ourselves in (the owners were absent due to a bereavement) and found very little in the way of information, either for the cottage or for the local area. We could not get the wifi to work, and had to contact the owner's daughter (our point of contact) to find out what we were doing wrong. It turns out the wifi only works in the car park! To advertise that this cottage has internet access is therefore clearly misleading, and given we would not have booked a cottage for two weeks without wifi access (or making alternative arrangements) this was extremely frustrating. In fact, due to the owners having turned off the wifi whilst they were away, we didn't even have access to wifi until they returned five days after our arrival, even from the car park.
The cottage was equipped with the most basic items, some of which were well past their sell-by date. For example, the tin opener didn't work (this was replaced on the owners' return, but didn't help open the tins needed for my children's' tea upon arrival!), wine glasses were cracked, pans were badly scoured etc. Our patio umbrella didn't work - we had to borrow our neighbours'.
The cottage needed a through clean-it had had only a surface clean.
All in all, we could not recommend staying here. We appreciate the cost is pretty reasonable in relation to others in the area, but we were prepared to spend more-but were swayed by the positive reviews for this accommodation.
We have taken some time to respond to your review and for that we apologise.
We are sorry that the cottage and grounds did not meet your expectations when you arrived.
We do take great pride in our property and as we live onsite we are able greet our holiday makers personally, many who have been visiting us for over 8 years, offer assistance where needed and if necessary resolve any problems. Unfortunately this was just not possible when you arrived.
The grounds and the cottages are usually very well maintained but unfortunately the sudden death of our son who was living overseas meant we had to leave with no notice.
Therefore, our normal service and attention to detail was not as we would have wished during this difficult time.
With regards to the internet we do state that due to the location and the type of building the internet access is not guaranteed. On this occasion it was switched off by mistake in our haste to leave.
Great place for the whole Family
From the word go we felt right at home. The hosts are wonderfully welcoming and showed us around our cottage upon arrival. The cottages are very clean and open plan and fitted out to a high standard. The kids can play in a wonderful save and fun environment. The grounds are huge and beautifully kept. For us the location was great. 10km to Honfleur on bikes along the Seine. We hired bikes from the tourist centre in Beauzeville. Les (the owner of the cottages) even assisted with bike repair. The little restaurant around the corner serves lovely food at a very reasonable price. All in all a great place! Highly recommend
This place is absolutely amazing and we enjoyed a fantastic family holiday here. The property itself is stunning and a real credit to the owners, who went out of their way to help us whenever we needed them. The location is perfect for nearby Honfleur, a town which has everything you will need to help you enjoy your holiday. I would highly recommend staying here, you will not regret it.
Great accommodation in beautiful settings
We arrived the first day of the summer holidays and was delighted to be so close to Honfelur. There was 6 people in our party, I wouldn't recommend the accommodation for this amount of people as my two children had to 'top and tail' and me and my husband were in single beds. The garden is amazing, perfectly kept, the kids had lots of fun making friends with other children on site and playing hide and seek. The Inside the property could do with a bit of a make over as lots of light bulbs had gone, We couldn't get the TV to work, wifi only worked if you stood outside the owners house. Location wise, perfect. A two minute drive down the road and you'll find a lovely bakery, pub and restaurant, also a small shop. Beaches are lovely and there are some great restaurants by the harbour. If you don't speak good French, it may be worth investing in a French book/translator book as most menus are in French only.
The tranquil French hamlet of Berville Sur Mer situated on the banks of the river Seines. Berville-sur-Mer is just six miles from the wonderful historic harbour town of Honfleur. Only 20 miles from the port of Le Havre and Calais is approximately two and a half to three hours drive. One hour from Caen (Ouistreham ferry) and two hours from Paris.
Other Activities: Normandy beaches, historic towns, sandy beaches
