'Les Etables' is a stylish and comfortable three bedroom stone cottage located in the main courtyard. Big open plan double height sitting/dining room and brand new modern kitchen. Tumbled travertine floor with stone walls makes this a stylish family retreat. There is a ground floor kingsize bedroom, family bathroom with bath, shower and WC and a further kingsize bedroom. Upstairs there is a large kingsize bedroom and shower/wash room. Quality bedlinen is provided and beds are made up for your arrival. Outside of the cottage there is a picnic table and bbq. Shared heated swimming pool.

La Cannonerie was built in 1826 and incorporates parts of a medieval hunting lodge believed to have been built by Francois 1st. All of our cottages are stylish and comfortable and the perfect location to relax and enjoy a fabulous french holiday.

Located in the stunning Petite Champagne Cognac region there are no immediate neighbours and guests can relax and enjoy the large 14x6m heated shared swimming pool and terrace with its commanding views across vines and rolling French countryside. About an hour from the beautiful beaches of the coast and the famous islands of Re and Olereon La Cannonerie is the perfect location for day trips to either the beach or one of the many other places of interest including Bordeaux, St Emilion, Cognac, Angouleme, La Rochelle and Saintes. The English owners have an eye of design and have created modern interiors without detracting from the traditional stone exteriors. A perfect holiday destination for you to relax and unwind.

Stunning, and peaceful

This was our second year at La Cannonerie, in a difference gite this year, and it was equally as stunning and peaceful as last year. The properties are finished to a very high standard, whilst retaining all of their character and charm. Les Etables is very spacious and even more impressive than the pictures show. Nothing is too much bother for the hosts/owners, and the whole site is so peaceful and picturesque, its a perfect place to unwind.

Amazing place to stay. Fantastic swimming pool and stunning surroundings. A real find and great location for Fay trips to some fabulous beaches and cognac. Happy holiday and memories made.

Vacances au calme!

Propriété très agréable. Proprietaires disponibles malgré le contexte sanitaire. Propreté des lieux impeccable. Endroit ideal pour un repos au calme et des balades à vélo. Seul petit point desagrément mais independant du lieu lui-même: le petit commerce de proximité etait fermé pendant le mois d'août ce qui obligeait à aller en ville en voiture à qques km (mais n'enlève rien au charme de nos vacances!)

Amazing break

We stayed for 4 nights in this beautiful property. The standard of the gite is extremely high with all modern comforts and very clean. La Cannonerie itself is a stunning property and the swimming pool and loggia provide great entertainment spaces for adults and children. I would highly recommend a stay in beautiful countryside a great place to escape. The owners did everything they could to make our stay as pleasant as possible, we will return.

Les vignes et tournesol de La Cannonerie

Like many of its neighbours, once a producer of fine Cognac and still today surrounded by rolling hills of vineyards and fields of sunflower. La Cannonerie sits amongst a lattice of 'white lanes' that link tiny settlements to quaint and unspoilt villages. It would be hard to imagine a more relaxing 'escape' destination! Around 90 minutes from the exclusive shops, port and budget flight destination of La Rochelle, a little less to the gorgeous coast lines of La Gironde and Ile d'Oleron. Or choose from a dozen rural market towns, bedecked with château, castles, restaurants, Romanesque churches, not to mention Cognac distilleries. Well equipped and recently and sensitively re-fitted to a very high standard, the gites are substantial original stone and shuttered labourers cottages, dotted around a substantial Cannonerie courtyard. Guests can enjoy the afternoon sun from a covered cool communal seating area or savour the amazing sunsets from the adjoining hill top open air swimming pool. In the fridge, you may well find a little gift from the next door Bertrand distillery, your invitation to stroll across the vineyard and pay a little visit. Oh, and why not barbecue your evening meal and sip your four euro bottle of local wine from those afore mentioned markets, and finish off with a tipple from the neighbouring field. We did - every single night!
