About this property

Stunning Converted Barn in peaceful countryside overlooking meadows & mountains

Cartws is a superb barn conversion set in a picturesque valley with idyllic views of the Preseli Hills. Hidden away at the end of a private lane, the barn overlooks a beautiful meadow and the meandering River Nevern along which you can stroll and fish for up to a mile.

Cartws is a former carthouse and cowshed which have been linked by a glass-fronted passageway where you can sit and enjoy the panoramic views of the Preseli Hills. Suitable for the less mobile, the living area and one en suite bedroom occupy the ground floor and there is a flat path from the car park.

The ground floor bedroom has a king-sized bed and a large en suite wetroom whilst the upstairs bedroom has twin beds/super-king and its own bathroom with a stand-alone bath and a separate shower. Relax in front of the woodburner and take in the views through the large French doors or sit out on the private patio and enjoy your own lawn and enclosed.

A 10 minute drive away is Newport with its superb restaurants, cafes and pubs, plus the sandy beach and Pembrokeshire Coastal. Within 15 minutes are the ancient Castles at Cardigan and Cilgerran, the Iron Age hill fort of Castell Henllys and the neolithic burial chamber of Pentre Ifan. This is a wonderful base for enjoying the scenic coast and countryside of West Wales.

Quiet, charming and clean

Stunning property with beautiful views over the hills. The host, Michelle is lovely, and the welcome note and homemade cake was very much appreciated. This cottage has everything you could possibly need for a break away. Will definitely be returning.

Highly recommended! Fantastic week away!

Thank you so much to Michelle for such a wonderful stay. We all had such a good time (4 adults and 1 toddler). The setting is absolutely beautiful and very peaceful and Cartws is so luxurious whilst also being child friendly - a stunning property. Michelle made sure we had all the amenities we needed (hair dryer, towels, clean bath mats, washing machine, washing line, kitchen utensils etc). The homemade lemon drizzle cake she left was delicious, as was the fresh organic milk. Our toddler thoroughly enjoyed himself and was able to play safely in the front garden area where we were able to keep an eye on him whilst in the open plan living room/kitchen area. He especially loved the visits from the very friendly farm cat! The property was fairly close to local areas such as tresaith, aberporth, narberth, Newquay, and so we were able to drive and visit lots of nearby beaches as well as Newport Beach and the main town and supermarket is only about a 10 min drive. We highly recommend our stay and would definitely return in the future. We have no criticism as there was nothing that would have improved our stay/trip.

Perfect relaxing getaway

We stayed at this property for my wifes 30th birthday and it was exactly the break we needed. It was relaxing with all the amenities we could need but it was also a beautiful place to stay. The views from the cottage were great and the property was furnished to a high standard, felt like a home from home. We will definitely be returning in the future!

Wonderful West Wales Family Retreat

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at the 2 bedroom cottage. Michelle was a great host and even left a delicious freshly baked cake for us when we arrived. The house is located in a beautiful and serene setting overlooking a large field that is bordered by a river. The layout was perfect for us because we have 2 kids ages 9 & 11. We stayed downstairs and the kids slept upstairs. Each bedroom had a separate bath, and the baths had a spa-like quality to them. The open plan living/dining/kitchen was spacious and light-filled with large glass doors on 2 sides. The log-burning stove was also a pleasant treat to use each evening. For colder evenings, the downstairs has this fabulous heated slate floor! We used the cottage as a location to explore St. David's Cathedral, Manobir Castle, Narberth and the western coastal towns. There's also a lovely cat who comes around in the evenings. We highly recommend this place and look forward to staying again on our next trip to Wales.

Perfect 5* cottage

We couldn't have wished for a more perfect stay, Y Cartws was everything we'd hoped for and more, a wonderfully luxurious, spacious cottage amidst the most picturesque countryside where only the wildlife interrupts the silence...bliss! Michelle was a fabulous host and her lemon drizzle cake certainly lived up to it's reputation! Her care and attention to detail in making a comfortable, clean and relaxing home for her guests is faultless. This is a perfect base from which to explore this beautiful part of Wales; Abereiddy and a walk to the 'witches cauldron' from Ceibwr bay were our highlights, but you'll have to drag yourself away from the cottage first! Hope we get to return someday, we'd love to try coming in the colder months, cosy in, light that log-burner and hope to get snowed in!

Home from home accomodation in a tranquil setting

After a long drive we were welcomed by breath taking views and a surprisingly larger than expected holiday barn. There was nothing we could fault but only praise the cleanliness and 'new' feel to the rooms, crisp sheets, delicious cake and lovely flowers. Little finishing touches that made our two weeks a delight. Plenty of well researched information for the local and surrounding area. Highly recommended and such a shame we had to leave. Thanks Michelle & Alwyn for making us feel so welcome.

Perfection!

It was a beautiful property and great care had been taken to make guests feel very comfortable. We loved the way the conversion had been done. We were warmly welcomed and felt very relaxed during our stay. The bed was so comfortable that on our return home I went straight to Dunelm and bought an identical mattress topper!! Many thanks for that, Michelle!🛌💤

Superb!!!!

One of the best holiday rental properties that we have ever stayed in .... Not only was it beautifully decorated with stunning bathrooms (our boys particularly liked the waterfall taps!!) but really homely and well equipped. The delicious cake on arrival was most welcome after a long journey. Also, a lovely view of the countryside and walks from our doorstep. So much to do in the surrounding area that we are already planning our return visit, and will definitely be staying at Cartws.

An outstanding holiday cottage

As you approach Y Cartws, along a narrow private road, your first impression is of a beautiful cottage with a lovely view and excellently maintained. The interior backs this up - it has been finished to a very high standard and was very well equipped and nice and clean. We stayed hear for 1 week with my 83 year old mother and it was ideal as it has all the facilities on the ground floor plus the added bonus of a double (or twin) bedroom upstairs with it`s own bathroom and shower cubicle. The owner, Michelle is really nice and very helpful and left us a lovely lemon cake and eggs from her own chickens. I feel that I should, perhaps, add a few negative comments to balance the review, but all I could think of was that it could do with a few grab rails in the ground floor shower to assist the elderly or less able. But I knew this when I booked so I`m not complaining. I would recommend this cottage and would definitely use it again.

A wonderful week in Y Cartws

I cannot overstate how lovely this property is. The conversion is beautifully furnished and so well equipped. The bathrooms are particularly spacious. The secluded setting, with views over the fields add to the charm and make Y Cartws perfect for a relaxing holiday. Michelle was lovely and very accommodating when we had to change our plans. This was our second trip to Y Cartws, after enjoying a week there last October. We were able to explore areas not visited last time. This location is a great base to visit the south and west coasts as well as beaches along the north coast. Cardigan, with a large Tescos, is handy for shopping, only 9 miles away. We would love to return again next year.

Idyllic Cottage

Fantastic, from the moment we pulled up you could see that the property was going to be beautiful, and when we stepped inside it didn't disappoint, a beautiful cottage in an idyllic setting, the owners Michelle and Arwyn what a lovely pleasant couple who couldn't have made you feel more welcome, and the little extra touches like the flowers, Lemon Drizzle Cake Emm and card welcoming you made the whole experience just that little bit more special, the cottage was set on a farm with views of rolling tree lined hills and to say you could have heard a pin drop is an understatement the most peaceful holiday we have ever experienced, from a selfish point of view wish this was only on secret escapes so we would always have a chance of booking the cottage out, but now the cat is out of the bag I'll just have to join what will surely be a very long queue Can't Wait to stay again, FANTASTIC !!!

Stunning cottage

What a beautiful cottage, from the moment we arrived I knew it was going to exceed my expiation. On entering the property it was stunning, it had a large lounge with log burner, kitchen dinner with all the facilities. The two double bedrooms on suite, one with a wet room, the other had a bath big enough to sail the Pembroke coast. The views from the cottage were outstanding. The customer service was excellent. Would we go back again, most certainly ,would we recommend it, without doubt. Two very happy people, (if only all self catering properties were like this.) Many thanks to Michelle & Arwyn.

Wow!!

What a fantastic holiday accommodation with beautiful surroundings and finished to a very high standard. We enjoyed visiting the stunning beaches just a short distance away including Mwnt where we spotted dolphins from the cliff top. St Davids and Newgale were brilliant for surfing with such great waves! Lemon drizzle cake and fresh eggs were a lovely touch after such a warm welcome. We had a great stay and loved every single minute of it! :) Hope to return soon!

Great escape!

A very warm welcome for us at Y Cartws; with fresh flowers and Welsh cakes. Perfect romatic getaway. Lovely high quality and clean cottage with great views! Perfect location for visiting the Pembrokeshire coast. Close to the lovely village (and beach) of Newport! Loved the beach of Mwnt (close to Cardigan). Would definitely recommend Cartws to everyone. Hope to come back next year.
