After his death, it was passed down to his son, Judge Thomas Fell, and his wife, Margaret. Swarthmoor Hall was visited by the founder of the Quaker movement, George Fox, in 1652. After Thomas Fell’s death, George wed Margaret Fell, and he stayed at the hall intermittently throughout his life.
The hall is located only 2 miles away from the coast and just over a mile away from the thriving town of Ulverston, which has a host of fantastic local restaurants, public houses, shops and an indoor market. Stunning Coniston Water is only 13 miles away where you can spend a day lazing around the water.
