About the host

We love the outdoors so coming here was a no-brainer! Away from the crowds we get the best of both worlds - easy access to stunning mountains lakes and beaches, but very few traffic jams! The area is wonderful, whether you venture from the doorstep, on bike or foot or travel further afield by car you will find something for everyone to do.
We are onsite most of the time in case of any difficulties - we normally pop round to say hello as you arrive, but will otherwise leave you in peace! We have a boisterous but very friendly black lab - just let us know if you prefer not to meet him!

Why they chose this property

Broughton Beck is a very quiet hamlet with no noise or light pollution - fantastic for star gazing on a clear night! It is centrally placed for visiting the Morecambe bay peninsulas in the south, the west coast, or venturing into the Lake District National Park - Conisiton, Windermere, Grasmere, the Duddon valley, Elterwater or Ennerdale are all within an hour's drive. The Langdales can also be reached - but for those venturing up Scafell, please note the shortest route up is from the furthest car park! With footpaths from the doorstep, cycle route 70 close by and Coniston water less than 5 miles away, there is lots to do for outdoor enthusiasts. Inclement weather? - no problem! There are many indoor places to visit too and we have a boiler room where you can dry off wet kit overnight. Ulverston is our nearest town for supplies - 2.5miles - Known as the festival town, there are volunteer run events throughout the year. Nestled around cobbled streets there are many unique local shops and restaurants for every taste and budget.

What makes this property unique

Our barn is an old Cumbrian bank barn in use until the mid 1970's. Converted in the 1980's you can still see the original beams in the living area and hallway. The external walls are made out of granite and run to a yard thick - some of the walls remain exposed in the living area and master bedroom. The Hayloft is "upside down" in that the bedrooms are on the ground floor and the open plan living area is on the first floor. We try and be as eco friendly as we can using eco friendly products wherever possible.
