About this property

Historic Malthouse-Somerset village location Bath

Stay in a stunningly restored historic house sleeping up to 14 with modern levels of comfort to suit families and groups of friends. The Malthouse is a Grade II listed building in the heart of a picturesque village that’s the perfect base for memorable holidays near Bath.

The large kitchen/dining area comfortably seats 14 with an open fireplace. There are 7 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, two stylish lounges with a 55 inch TV and views out onto the garden and rolling countryside beyond.

As soon as you walk through the heavy oak door into the original cart-way entrance, you’ll feel the warmth of this welcoming home. A couple of steps from the entrance take you to an easily accessible ground floor king bedroom with a shower and toilet.

The stylish handmade kitchen, fully fitted and dining room has a working stone fireplace and a huge pine dining table that can host up to 14 people. The kitchen leads to two comfortable lounges, both thoughtfully furnished. One has an inglenook fireplace to warm yourself by on colder days, a deep sofa and a workspace. The other is the garden room where you can enjoy far-reaching views of the idyllic countryside. Elegantly proportioned, it has a 55 inch smart TV and plenty of room for family games and relaxation.

The turret stairway leads you, with help from a rope bannister, up to the first floor where there are four bedrooms and two bathrooms.
All the bedrooms are large and comfortable with crisp Egyptian cotton linen and fluffy towels. The master bedroom, flooded with light from the dual aspect windows, is beautifully decorated and can also be a mini-suite. The second floor has the remaining two bedrooms. One with views over the garden and countryside, the other twin room has a captivating view of the ancient malthouse roof through a floor-to-ceiling glass window. This is an ideal family room, sharing the bathroom and entrance to the floor.

The outside space has a big open courtyard and a large, long, well-managed garden with views.
The Malthouse exudes luxury and indulgence in an impressive renovation brimming with period features. The studio is a separate building as you enter the grounds of the Malthouse.

The living spaces combine the traditional with contemporary. Large windows and stylish decor throughout. Sofas in both sitting rooms provide ideal spots to relax, with a wood burner in the lounge and TV in the garden room which looks out onto the garden and beyond.

The modern kitchen, with flagstone floors, is well equipped to prepare a meal in the dining area which seats 14 in front of a huge fireplace for winter warmth.

The high standard continues in the bedrooms, some rooms configured as super-kings and twins so everyone is happy. Spacious rooms with unique beams, window seats, feature fireplaces, classy soft furnishings with hand made curtains, garden views offer the perfect sanctuaries to unwind.
The ground floor king size room with en suite is particularly handy for multi generational groups or those with mobility issues - please enquire. 4 bathrooms are positioned across 3 floors with good quality fixtures and fittings. The second floor is more like a family room, sharing both the stairs up to it and the bathroom, the twin room is up a few steps and behind a heavy curtain.

The basement has your white goods and an extra tall fridge.

Explore pretty Cotswold villages, visit Stonehenge, Glastonbury and Longleat. The city of Bath is only 15 minutes away with many historic attractions including the Roman Baths and Royal Crescent, as well as independent shops and many local eateries such as Sally Lunns Bath Buns for afternoon tea.

We are Knox Bhavan a multi-award winning RIBA chartered architectural practice established in 1995.
We fell in love with the Malthouse and lovingly restored it to where it is now.

We hope guests enjoy this beautiful property as much as we do.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Malthouse is a Grade II listed building with some areas dating back to the 1500s. Some floors are uneven with one low doorway into the garden room, mind your head! all adding to the character of the building.

The Malthouse is not suitable for people with impaired mobility, however you could book the studio separately, which is on the grounds of the Malthouse.
You will be well looked after when you book a stay at our historic house.
