DALGOVER HOUSE, NR. PORTHTOWAN

Dalgover house is special. This gorgeous three bedroom detached Cornish farmhouse is a real hidden gem privately tucked away and set within three and half acres of its own magical gardens. As you arrive along a farm track it’s hard not to be wowed when greeted by this stunning home overlooking the enormous gardens. It feels like a private oasis surrounded by idyllic Cornish countryside.

Having recently been completely refurbished and extended Dalgover House exudes effortless style and traditional charm making for the most wonderful base for either families or smaller parties wanting a complete escape. Although benefitting from its secluded location it’s also in a great spot for easily exploring this stunning area with the golden sands of both Porthtowan and Portreath beaches under ten minutes’ drive away.
Built around 1870, most likely as a count house for the local mines, the barn next door is believed to be even older with the site having been inhabited for more than three hundred years. Today the house boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms with three separate living rooms, a dining room and a kitchen. There’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and the two wood burners keep it toasty and make it ideal for cosy winter breaks. The spacious kitchen and dining room is a great social space for gathering everyone together to plan the day’s activities. When it’s just too good to be inside light the barbeque and enjoy an alfresco summer evening in the beautiful gardens.

Offering home from home comfort, peace and privacy within a beautiful three-acre mature garden if you can drag yourself away it is perfectly located to further explore the local area. The north coast is a short drive away with a choice of local beaches, great for surfing and coastal walks with dog friendly options. The town of St Agnes is nearby to the east and Hayle to the west. Within half an hour you can be in St Ives, Marazion and Porthleven and then retreat back to the calm of Dalgover House after the day's adventures.

LOCATION

Located on a quiet rural lane the house is under a ten-minute drive from Porthtowan beach and is perfectly located to reach Godrevy, St Agnes and further along the coast to St Ives, Marazion and beyond to the stunning Penwith peninsula. Sennen and Porthcurno are a 40-minute drive away to the west. Set in a peaceful location it is within easy reach back to the A30 to access the north and south coasts and to the far west of Cornwall.

Tehidy Country Park is nearby; the largest area of dog friendly woodland in Cornwall with over 9 miles of woodland paths and waterways, there is also the chance to feed friendly squirrels and birds here.

The local area is steeped is mining history with the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site of Heartlands on your doorstep with a museum, gardens and cafe. The nearest good pub is The Unicorn in Porthtowan a short drive away. Further afield St Agnes has a host of good eateries, cafes and pubs as does the cathedral city of Truro.

LIVING

Comfortable and stylish the three living rooms provide everyone with their own space or to get together to watch a good film. There are two sitting rooms to the front of the house with views of the much-loved garden, both have a wood burner to keep them cosy and the third is a TV room with two large sofas and French doors to the outside. There’s no shortage of places to enjoy an afternoon read, a game or two or simply gaze out at some lovely garden vistas.

COOKING & EATING

The kitchen at Dalgover House is fabulous, light and equipped with everything you need to cook up a feast. Opening up to the dining room, it's a great space with a large American style fridge/freezer and a Range cooker with six-ring gas hob, ensuring you can welcome the whole family to dinner. The dining table seats eight comfortably and the open nature of the kitchen and light filled dining room allows conversations to flow all evening long. The large dining table brings everyone together and the open plan design with the kitchen provides a social place to gather.
