Double doors from the living room open out onto a lovely south facing patio and a gravelled area. It is separated from but connected to the parking and large grass paddock area. The whole of the property is gated and well fenced around the perimeter with a combination of post and rail fencing with stock mesh (smaller at the bottom to stop very small dogs squeezing through), solid fence panels and a mix of fencing plus planting. At the lowest point it is approx 4ft. but solid.

Rooster Barn grounds are mature and include an attractive but robust planting of shrubs and hedge plants. The main garden is laid to lawn with plenty of space for your dogs to exercise in a safe and secure space.

Return to Rooster Barn

After visiting last year for the first time (we re-booked within 2 days), it was great to return to Rooster Barn. The area is tranquil and has so much to offer, particularly as we have two young dogs who love to have off lead walks and sniffs. Everything you could want for a home from home. Great places to visit all within 10 miles or a 15 minute journey. Highly recommend.

We love Rooster Barn

This was our second stay at Rooster Barn and our third holiday with East Ruston Cottages. Absolutely everything that we might need, or the dog was there, along with a delicious welcome pack for humans and dog alike. The enclosed garden with plenty of room to park the cars is fantastic. Very private and relaxed. The whole process from booking to departure is made easy and we were well informed. Sue is very good at answering any questions you may have. Would thoroughly recommend both Rooster Barn and East Ruston Cottages for a truly dog welcoming holiday experience!

Wonderful barn conversion

Rooster Barn is a gorgeous property and it was a holiday we were so looking forward to. Everything was provided that we had requested as we were bringing a dog with some mobility issues. Customer service was excellent. Loved the location of the property. Sadly after only one day one of our dogs became very poorly and we had to dash back home (6hrs away) and could only return to pack up and leave . Sue was so helpful and sympathetic, helpfully managed to rebook our second week which we were so grateful for. If you ever need a reason to book with East Ruston Cottages then our experience tells you why. Brilliant customer service together with amazing properties. We will be back!

Could not be any more dog welcoming!

What a gorgeous cottage! From the moment we arrived we loved it. We loved being able to park on the gravel in the garden and shut the gate - made getting the dogs out of the car SO much easier! And we knew that they would be safe in the garden - the description on the website is spot on. Inside is so charming and welcoming and easy to relax in. Loved the textured flooring - made it so much easier for our old boy to get around. The fire was wonderful - we almost wished it was colder so we could use it more! The kitchen was really, really well equipped - we even found a seafood eating kit!! Which is perfect as we discovered lots of places selling local fresh crab! When we did eat out there were so many dog friendly places nearby and we explored the beaches (loved Mundesley and Overstrand) and had two lovely walks in the grounds of Felbrigg Hall and Blickling Hall nearby. There was a lot of really useful information in the house, the digital guide that we were sent was really helpful too. Honestly we didn't want for anything. Even the welcome pack was well above what we expected with all sorts of goodies. Definitely will be coming back to this one and this fabulous part of the country. Don't think we have ever been anywhere SO truly dog welcoming!

"Simply the best"!!!

This was our first visit to Norfolk and we were not disappointed, the area, beaches, walks etc were wonderful. As for Rooster Barn, it was second to none it is set at the end of a small unmade track, the garden is so private and extremely safe for our Houdini Border Terrier, he was able to play without us having to worry that he would escape. This was paramount to us as we could actually relax, other properties we've stayed in advertise an"enclosed garden"but more often than not there is a way out somewhere. East Ruston Cottages go to great lengths explaining in detail the real facilities available to dogs (and humans), so we knew it would be safe before we booked. The barn itself was lovely, quiet, very private spotlessly clean and very nicely presented. We wanted for nothing from practicalities (cooking, cleaning etc) to information(lots of it) of places to visit, eat,. You name it, they supplied it.. There was a lovely welcome pack with lots of goodies for humans and doggies... Unusually, they also supplied washing, dishwashing and cleaning products.. Brilliant Very sad to be home and we will certainly be back sometime. I don't think we will ever find another place or agency to beat this one.... Thank you ERC for this.. We felt like a guest rather than a customer.

FAB-U-LOUS !!!!!!!

What an amazing find Rooster barn is just perfect from the moment you close the gate behind you and let your fur babies out of your car you can relax the garden is a lovely size and so so safe which was so important to us ….when you enter the barn is like stepping into someone’s home it smells fresh and clean which considering most customers using the barn has dogs is quite an achievement! The kitchen is so well equipped which was lovely for me as I love to cook and it’s so frustrating when there is little or no equipment to do this….. our two dogs settled straight away they always loved to go off for the day but they were just as happy to return at the end of the day they were first at the front door waiting to go in for dinner then straight on there beds we never heard a peep out of them for the whole evening The barn is situated in a great location so close to everything so we didn’t need to travel to far national trust properties were all around 20 mins to half an hour away we used all three as the walks were just beautiful The Alby craft place which is just down the road from the barn was lovely for a quick lunch it’s an Artisan cafe which is extremely dog friendly watch out for the peacocks if your dog is reactive to our feathered friends as one of ours is !!!! Local trunch honey which is just across the road from the barn just follow the lane up a little highly recommend beautiful honey ❤️ I could go on and on …..the bottom line is I would recommend Rooster Barn 100% you will have an amazing time there …would we go back …… absolutely

Good but not perfect

We had a lovely stay at Rooster Barn, the location is perfect for touring Norfolk. The cottage is lovely, very clean and very well equipped, there was every thing you could possibly need and very dog friendly, our dog really enjoyed the large garden. Just a few minor issues, it’s not for tall people as the ceilings are low in the bedroom and bathroom, and likewise the beams in the living area, my 6’4 son, who often holidays with us would find this difficult. Also if you have a reactive dog there was a lot of RAF jet activity over the cottage, when we were there, not low but very loud, we found staying out till after 5pm worked best, that way we missed the worst of it. We may have just been unlucky with the time of year. Lastly we were informed a few weeks before our stay that the outside patio area off the living room could not be used due to a breach of the fence, we couldn’t see anything but as there were rat bait boxes in this area we thought it best not allow our dog in there, it was a shame as this was a lovely outside area. This didn’t spoil our holiday but would it have made it more enjoyable…..definately yes

Dog friendly heaven

We just spent 5nts at Rooster Barn with our 3 little dogs and what a wonderful time we had. The barn and garden were just perfect for us all, we also took our elderly mother who loved it just as much. The area is in a quiet location but easy access to explore Norfolk. The welcome pack was a lovely and generous touch and enjoyed by everyone. We will deffo be returning to one of your properties in the near future for some more relaxation time xx

Rooster Barn- A late summer booking

Lovely location, very peaceful, but in a central location for visiting both coast and countryside. Lots of walks available from the cottage, along with lots a short car ride away. Very good welcoming pack for both humans and dogs. As dogs are allowed everywhere, it is the first time I've gone away with our dog and not had to worry about where she was going or sitting. A very secure garden, full fenced, so no worries there either.

Super times in Super dog friendly cottage

This is a wonderful barn where the owner has thought of everything. Such a wonderful welcome pack….. even a birthday toy for Frankie my older black lab who was celebrating being 10! So generous. The barn has a sizeable secure garden with a ranch gate that has also been wired so it is perfect to leave dogs roam while you sit in the sun. The barn has a tiled floor but with mats dotted about, my dogs were very relaxed and chilled, plus the provision of dog throws, towels, dishes, crates etc was a real bonus. If you already have a car full, you can leave some stuff behind since Roosters will have it. A big thank you too for popping our online groceries order away. What a treat! We arrived and it was all done for us. Lovely. Plus the app and playlist were a special initiative we enjoyed. The paddle staircase is a bit more of a challenge. It’s very clear in the description and as someone with double titanium knees, I considered it, got about halfway and decided not for me! Husband was fine using it though. My younger lab (who goes everywhere that the Boss goes) looked up at it rather bemused and then stayed firmly on ground floor for the fortnight! We took our own bedding for the downstairs bedroom.. Worth noting it’s a double there but I took a king duvet cover which seemed to be right for the duvet provided. Lots of adventures….. huge dog friendly beaches such as Winterton, Brancaster and Holkham. Loved all the stately homes…. Holkham, Blickling, Felbrigg, Sandringham. Not everywhere dog friendly but we relayed going into the houses while the other walked the dogs or sat with them having a cuppa etc. perfect. We went to the Broads, Wroxham, Norwich, ate crab sandwiches galore ( so cheap!) and highly recommend a great place to visit. We found so many cafes that were so welcoming and loved seeing the hounds. In fact, they’ve never had so many free treats (and in some places squirty cream with gravy bones!) We would definitely recommend Rooster Barn if you are looking to explore everything Norfolk has on offer- a dog friendly haven. Fabulous.

Happy customer

First time at Rooster Barn. Had a week away with my husband and our four large dogs (Pointers and a Weimaraner). We were greeted with a lovely welcome pack and a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our anniversary. The accommodation was perfect for us as it provided a secure space for our dogs to wander, as well as giving us a peaceful place to rest. There is a pub (under new management) in the village, where we sat outside after a walk with the dogs and everything else is just a short drive away. The neighbours dogs were not a problem. They occasionally barked when they heard our dogs outside, but there was no place around the property for contact, it’s completely secure. I’ve already booked to come back next year.

Lovely converted barn - comfortable, spacious, 'home from home'. A great place to stay

We loved our stay at Rooster Barn - Rooster barn has a beautiful interior, is well equipped and has all comforts for a relaxing stay. The beach and nice walks are nearby, along with great places to eat. The barn has plenty of resources for people wanting to self cater. It has an outside area for eating in fine weather and is really great for dogs, as the outside space is enclosed with a gate. Highly recommended - we plan to return.

Rooster barn Trunch

Beautiful place to stay plenty of safe space for dogs to run around well equipped cottage. The only thing i would say been a barn is noise floor boards above the ground floor bed room and noise doors. Could do with changeing the double bed to a king size bed as I found the double to small .but very warm at rooster barn and comfortable

Simply stunning

We booked a last minute short break and couldn’t believe how stunning the property is. Very large, secure garden (I have small dogs) which meant I could have them in the garden without worry about them escaping. The house itself is beautiful and huge effort has gone into making it perfect in every way. The large log fire was the icing on the cake with the chilly evenings drawing in. Many thanks for one of the best welcome packs ever which included lovely local produce. I can’t fault this property and hope to come back. First class from booking to checking out, East Ruston Cottages have got it spot on .

Another glorious stay at Rooster Barn

Another perfect stay and time spent at our favourite ECR property. Rooster Barn does not disappoint and we find that every repeat visit just makes us love the barn even more. The interior is cosy and welcoming, beautifully furnished with comfy furniture, a well-stocked kitchen and lovely details throughout the property. The outside space is perfect for dogs and our 2 love the space and being able to run around. The coast is not far and there are plenty of footpaths near the property. Going back again next month and we cannot wait! Our perfect holiday space ...

Best of the best

You really can not fault this Barn. There is everything you need plus a few things you didn’t know you did! The welcome goody packs for both humans and dogs are so good! You can drive in, shut the gate, and your hounds are totally secure. We found we got to the Mundersley beach quickly, but there are so many places to visit. All dog friendly. Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall and Morston Quay we recommend a visit.

Another lovely stay at Rooster Barn!

The best compliment I can give after we’ve said it all over the years is that we both said the same when we returned to Rooster Barn this year; ‘it feels like home’! The dogs love it & so do we! All you could want for a relaxing & truly dog-welcoming & dog-friendly stay, within easy reach of exploring all around. Love it that with East Ruston Cottages you can trust it when they say ‘secure garden’ & ’dog friendly’ & ask if not sure. After all, when taking dogs on holiday, if they’re happy & safe, we are! The sun even shone too which was unexpected given the Summer so far! Lovely & clean on arrival with welcome goodies for us too, & more importantly (of course), the dogs! Lovely pubs & food nearby, the Vernon Arms & Ship Inn (booking advised). The Small Sticks Cafe too for a dog-friendly stop-off/snack (check opening times). The loveliest & best two secure dog fields EVER at Martham Paw Ground (& we’ve used a lot over the years). Lovely owner & so well-kept. Booked in advance for second year running. Also Seaview Dog Meadow, a smaller but lovely secure dog field near Holt/Blakeney where we booked on the same day (lucky) for an afternoon slot whilst over that way like last year. Booking for both is easy. A HUGE thank you to the owners of Rooster Barn, all at ERC (always fantastic service, plus much appreciated return discounts & vouchers too), & those who work hard to keep it clean for us all - not easy with all the visitors furry & not so I’m sure. Back next year!

Rooster Barn

East Ruston Cottages were very easy to deal with and they are truly dog welcoming. They provided all the necessary information in the lead up to the holiday. Rooster Barn is well placed in Trunch, and there were so many good walks from the house. The barn itself was very comfortable, clean and well equipped. Liz was very communicative and left a wonderful array of human and dog treats. We had a lovely relaxing week and I would have no hesitation in recommending either Rooster Barn or East Ruston Cottages if you wish to visit North Norfolk
