The name of this area means "Old City" in Catalan, fitting since it is Barcelona's first and oldest district. Set between the Mediterranean and l'Eixample, elegant Cuitat Vella is made up of a number of smaller neighborhoods, each with a unique flavor of its own. The district is one of the most desirable places to live in Barcelona.

Tiny Barri Gòtic is home to the Cathedral of Barcelona, as well as museums, international hotels, and a trendy nightlife scene. The lovely neighborhood has narrow, medieval streets, and is also the setting for the Museu d'Història de Barcelona, where visitors can marvel at relics from times past.
