Inacceptable, left after one night
We have stayed in 4 different holiday homes on Corsica and have often stayed in holiday homes world wide. This is the first time we have to post a negative review.
Positive things first: The studio was clean, the bathroom was Ok, the studio was very close to a nice beach (there are much nicer beaches on Corsica), albeit one had to cross the highway to get there. There was a nice shower in the garden. A very nice couple received us. They were friends of the owner and staying on the property as well. The owner was not nearby. The furniture, equipment was very basic, old and functional at most. The place lacked charme which may be acceptable, although most places on Corsica offered way more for similar prices.
Nevertheless, in total we found the place bellow the minimum, acceptable standard of a holiday appartment for the following reasons:
The air was very damp, mouldy and smelly, as if windows hadn't been opened in a long time. The humidity inside the appartment was that high that even the sheets were damp. It was hard to breathe and sleep in the appartment. There was mould in the appartment. The stove was full of rust. It didn't seem a good idea to cook on it. The bunk bed was broken on several places.
We informed the owner immediately after our arrival of the problems in the appartment. She didn't seem to understand that there was a problem. As she was far away in Marseille she didn't have a chance to see and smell herself. As we were travelling with a child we didn't have the chance to leave on the day of our arrival, but left the next day after not sleeping well.
Of all the appartments we stayed at this was the only one that demanded full payment the moment we booked. Despite our complaints and staying only 1 out of 9 nights the owner refused to return our money. She kept repeating that we were the first guests that complained in the last 6 years and that she wants to prove that she was right. I think it is just wrong to blame guests for being unhappy and not even consider that something is really wrong with the appartment.
I do not think that one should treat guests this way. Judging by the old interior and very low standard and the fact that the owner seems to cling to the full ammount it seems that the owner priorizes financial gain over customer statisfaction. We strongly believe that a hospitality business that places mere profit above guest's satifaction cannot be sustainable.
Nous faisons un peu tard l'appréciation, mais nous avions passé un excellent moment sur place. La situation de la propriété est top et nous a permis de découvrir la corse en long et en large.
Cadeau d'un parasol trop encombrant pour le retour, qui ne passait pas dans les valises remplis de saucisson...
