About Gordon Wilcox
I grew up in New York and moved out to Seattle in 1970, where I lived for four decades. I bought the house in 2003 and have been enjoying island life ever since. I work as a lawyer and enjoy sailboats, woodworking, family, and travel.
Why Gordon Wilcox chose Vashon Island
The property is on a small saltwater harbor in a quiet rural setting. I love its beauty and its quiet, the sailing, and the low-key people on the island.
What makes this House unique
The property has beautiful views of the water, gardens, complete privacy, and offers a total escape from city life.

Dream Home with Something for Everyone
My wife and I wanted to share the Puget Sound experience with our little ones (aged 3 and 2) and my parents (they asked me not to share their ages).
We found Gordon's home on VRBO and thought it was perfect for our needs. The home's layout affords everyone a bit of privacy, with plenty of nooks that are perfect for reading a book, watching the sailboats on the harbor, or playing a little bit of whiffle ball in the backyard.
The toddlers loved the yard and the water at low tide, and the living room area made for a great giant toy room to play in. The adults loved the views, access to the water toys from the mooring buoy, and the sunsets. We were all drawn to the kitchen, which served as a gathering area for eating, drinking, and working on a giant puzzle.
Gordon is an incredibly gracious and responsive host. He made us feel welcome in his beautiful home, and his friendly neighbors made us feel like we'd lived there for years.
Fun things to do — walk over to Jensen point and rent a kayak or paddle board, drink a coffee at the Burton Coffee Stand, check out a show at the Vashon Center for the Arts, grab a bite at the Hardware Store or Gravy, and enjoy the idyllic farmer's market on Saturday.
I would highly recommend this home for a family or group of families looking to enjoy a relaxing, quiet escape. I miss it already.
Loved everything about this place!
The property is incredibly nice. The photos do not do it justice. The rooms are huge, especially the master, which has an amazing shower! one of the rooms is an entire basement suite with a big couch and sitting area. There is also a step down huge sitting area living room and a side t.v. area. So there was plenty of space for plenty of people. We never felt crowded. Also, the furniture is top of the line. The kitchen was amazing too--every type of pan, knife, cookware, coffee options (french, espresso, drip, etc). We are cooks, so I really appreciated that. And the beds and pillows were very comfortable too! It was clean and organized, and easy.
It is in a perfect part of the island--quiet but not remote with easy driving access to the main strip of restaurants and nice walking access to coffee shops and small trails. On location, the best part was that the cove it is on is calm calm water. I was able to swim across it (1/2 mile) with ease--like it was a swimming pool. There is some boat activity but not a lot; mostly sailing. My children were able to kayak and paddle board right off the dock. Note: the dock is the only slightly sketchy part of the house--it was totally fine for 8+, but the younger child required adult hand because there is a small pathway leading to it, and the dock itself is older. But we did perfectly fine with it. There is no beach, but again, that was fine for us. The yard, deck, and house made up for any small side issues. FYI, we found from the 5 families vacationing at the same time, that beach on Vashon should really be in quotes "beach." We did not see any nice sand sitting areas--it isn't a swimming beach place. You can swim in the water of course, but access to the water is mostly rocky or muddy depending on the tide. (our experience). So, this dock was actually great!
Owner and caretaker were great and responsive and easy. Loved the whole experience.
We were escaping the summer heat of Arizona and absolutely love Vashon Island. There is something about getting on that ferry that makes life just melt away behind you. Communication with the owner was amazing and they were very helpful. The house was beautiful, the kitchen was the highlight of the house (well, ok, after the views) and we were treated to deer in the yard as we woke many mornings. The internet speed was fast (which was important with 2 teenagers) and we were very close to coffee and a small store. I would definitely bring my family again.
Lovely home with wonderful views of the harbor and surrounding areas.
This is a lovely home and a great place to get away from it all. The house is nicely decorated and is well stocked with almost every amenity you would want or need. The property is expansive and the grounds are beautiful, with wonderful views of the harbor and surrounding areas. Although the property is secluded, access to local stores and activities is only a short walk or drive away. This was truly a great location for a family getaway.
Awesome place, will be back!
We were so fortunate to have found this listing on VRBO- it fit our family holiday needs perfectly. The house was spacious, with space for reading, grand baby time, napping, and that does not include the 4 bedrooms. The huge kitchen isle allowed full family participation in meal preparations. We were able to eat out on the deck most of our meals- watching the harbor for signs of sea life and enjoying the water crafts cruise by. The house had everything you could need or want. Our granddaughter called it our holiday home and she was right! Gordon and Virginia were so helpful with recommendations and things to do on the island. Oh, yes—- and the hot tub! Vashon Island was lovely, with cafes, kayaking, hikes, beaches and a variety of restaurants too. Thank you for the wonderful time!
The island offers many opportunities to enjoy nature, from beachfront parks to wilderness trails. Many people come to the island for its great cycling routes.
