Petrská čtvrť is one of the areas of the New Town that was already inhabited before its foundation in 1348 and included in the New Town walls with the original street network and buildings. The difference from the newly laid out wide straight streets and regular plots of the New Town is still evident in the city plan today, as the old, spontaneous structure of the streets has been more or less preserved.
There were many workshops and mills near the banks of the Vltava (tannery, cardboard factory, etc.), which disappeared due to the regulation of the banks of the Vltava in 1915–1917. For the protection and promotion of the locality, the "Association of Friends of Petrská quarter" was founded, which has its headquarters in Biskupské dvor 1
