We're local kama'aina, not big money investors from 'outside'. We had amazing vacations here before we made The Big Island our home. We want you to enjoy vacationing here as well! You Kama'aina? Let us know!

PRIVATE- We value your privacy! We live on the 6 acre property. We're close enough to chat with and far enough away for you to feel that you're in your own world.

NATURAL SETTING- We're nestled in the garden oasis of Fern Forest with views of Mauna Kea. Secluded yet not far from amenities/necessities.

UNIQUE- Our yurt is specifically designed to meet the needs of visitors who enjoy the east side of The Big Island. There's a large covered lanai (deck) surrounded by natural rainforest where you can dine and relax in a quiet, peaceful environment.

TEMPERATURE- Our elevation is approximately 2100 ft. which makes for cool nights and warm days. We average about 10 degrees cooler than the coast. There is a tinted domed skylight that you can open or close. There's no need for air conditioning due to our clever design.

LOCATION- Our location is a perfect home-base to relax after spending time just down the road in Volcanoes National Park, driving around the Island, to the Kona side or exploring Hilo. Hale Kipa Fern Forest makes for a great place to come home to!

Great yurt stay

Probably the best way to travel. We loved everything about it. It was spacious, clean and had all the features we look for. Will definitely do it again.

A very special place!

We loved to stay in the yurt: the room is lightabd airy, with beautiful wooden furniture and floors as well as comfortable furnishings. At night the yurt is cozy and the setting in the Fern Forest is very special. We had the perfect location for both the Volcano National Park and exploring Puna. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We would stay there any time again.

Quiet & relaxing in an amazing clean yurt!

We had a fantastic stay at the yurt! It’s quiet besides the welcome evening noises of nature. Stars are super bright and we spent hours on the porch in both sunshine and rain relaxing, reading and playing cards. The yurt is beautiful and super clean. Bed is comfortable, nice hot shower, and we have everything we needed. We were sad to leave and wished we had booked a few more nights. Super close to the Volcano national park for hiking, great Thai restaurant and little grocery in Volcano on the way home. I would stay here again and will recommend to friends/family that want to venture away from the Kona side. Hosts are extremely responsive, sent good directions and we felt welcome immediately.
