Private Luxury Cottage in a Quiet Neighborhood
About Forrest Reed
We're Vicki and Forrest and we love travel. Vicki has been to 77 counties, and Forrest half as many. We've also stayed at 75 short term rentals. Vicki is a Professor of Communication Studies, and Forrest produces benefit concerts in retirement. We enjoy being out in nature with our two puppies, art, theatre, movies and great food. We consider it a privilege and a pleasure to host you at our new Fig Tree Cottage. We look forward to making your stay with us comfortable and enjoyable.
Forrest Reed purchased this Cottage in 2018
Why Forrest Reed chose Southwestern Sacramento
The popular Land Park neighborhood was developed in the mid 1940s. There are many unique homes in this heavily wooded area just south of downtown. Our home was the only original two story home on the block. Vicki became the second owner in 1980. The Sawtooth Zelkova tree out front is one of the city's historic trees.
What makes this Cottage unique
We'd be happy to offer suggestions on ways to make your stay in Sacramento special. In the binder in the cottage you will find a list of the best restaurants that are close by and fun activities. You can enjoy Vic's Cafe at the end of our block for breakfast, lunch or the wonderful ice cream. Welcome to the heart of California.

Staying in the little cottage was great! It is in a beautiful neighborhood in a great location.
Wonderful little cottage
The stay was a treat. The location is fantastic. You're close to everything. The neighborhood is cute and full of families. We would definitely stay here again. The gentleman that met us to show us a few features was super friendly.
Our stay in Sacramento
It was a wonderful week. Fig Tree Cottage is almost magical. It is well appointed and contains everything one would want and need on a vacation. The cleanliness is overwhelming.
We did not need a car, as it is a quick walk to a shopping center with a wonderful breakfast spot. We used Lyft to take us anywhere we wanted to go. We would give Fig Tree Cottage a 5 star plus rating and look forward to being there again. Lorrin and Andrew
Thanks Lorrin and Andy. You were wonderful guests. We look forward to your returning when you come back to visit your family and Grandkids.
Peaceful and Serene
My co-worker and I were in town for a two day conference at UCDavis. The location was perfect! The neighborhood was lovely with amazing trees, great for taking in a nice stroll, and the accomodations were perfectly tranquil! I wish I had more time to enjoy the backyard/courtyard. My coworker and I fell in love with the layout and decor the minute we went past the gate. The ck-in process was easy and we had everything we needed to feel super comfy!! The bed slept well for me and my coworker said the sofa sleeper offered up a good night's rest as well!! My only complaint is my stay was too short! Thanks for opening your cottage to us.
BTW, I packed your hand towel by mistake😲. I hope you received the new replacement from Amazon! I was mortified!
Thanks Aulet for sending us a hand towel. It arrived today. We're glad to hear that you two thoroughly enjoyed your stay. Please come back again anytime.
Perfect stay in Fig Tree Cottage
Smartly-designed and appointed cottage in lovely neighborhood; very comfortable all round; hosts provide terrific instructions on check-in and the use of everything in the cottage, as well as recommendations for food and sightseeing. We would unhesitatingly stay here again.
The Fig Tree Cottage was the perfect place to stay in our short stay in Sacramento. A lovely cottage in a lovely neighborhood with lovely hosts.
Land Park is a beautiful neighborhood with vintage homes and tree-lined streets. The historic Tower Theater, just one of the many neighborhood amenities, greets you at the 16th Street & Broadway entrance to Land Park.
Once you’re hungry, restaurants are close by and plentiful: Vic’s Ice Cream & Café (2 blocks away), Masulo’s Artisan Pizza, Freeport Bakery, La Bou’s Bakery & Cafe, plus a variety of restaurants on Broadway including Sellands or your choice of ethnic cuisine. We are a 5 minute drive from mid-town where you’ll find everything from coffee roasters and breweries to 5 star restaurants.
If you are looking for nearby outdoor activities, William Land Park contains 167 acres of walking or jogging paths, gardens, duck ponds, picnic areas, the zoo, a 9-hole golf course, and more. We are only five blocks from the park.
Special night out? It’s a short walk to hair salons and nail salons. Need groceries? Sprouts Market is within walking distance and Raley’s Supermarket is a 5 minute ride. Or spiritual nourishment? There is a Catholic Church and a Jewish Synagogue nearby; and a Christian Church off Broadway.
We are minutes away from all Sacramento attractions. In addition to short Uber/Lyft rides, public transportation is a block away. JUMP e-bikes are a fun way to see the area. Land Park Drive (at the end of our street) will take you right into the heart of downtown & midtown's shops & restaurants known as The Grid.
