About this property

Tuscan Farmhouse near siena

This beautiful farmhouse has been split into two different areas. The ground level (accessible at the front of the building) is where you will be staying. The upper floor is also for available to rent but has a completely separate entrance and separate and opposite outdoor space. Traditional Tuscan architecture, characterized by terracotta floors & exposed wooden beams is common throughout the property, including the two spacious bedrooms. A dining table that seats 6 can be the centre of some great feasts and memories. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, glassware & ceramics, enabling you to cook up your own meals if you so desire.
Come and enjoy the 'Dolce far niente' - the sweetness of doing nothing by grabbing a book, cooking up a meal & playing some board games or cards. Alternatively use this as a base for countless day trips to explore Tuscany & beyond.

Very cold House when we arrived, it was below 10 degrees. To cold to live in.
The house was dam cold. below 10 degrees. It took us 24 hours to heat the house with the pellet heater. No welcome book available, how to use the heater. Showers only had cold water. After we whatsapped with the host (they lived in another time zone) next morning they told us that we had to wait for 5 minutes before warm water was available. Showers were of bad quality, you could not stop the rain showers. Bedrooms were so intense cold. We left the house after two days. The host paid us some money back. The agent VRBO was useless. It was not easy to reach them and they did nothing for us. I would not recommend VRBO to others. So it was not a good choice to rent this house by using VRBO.

Immerse Yourself in Tuscany
We spent two weeks at Belvedere with another couple with the aim of immersing ourselves in Tuscany and absorbing the local culture. Belvedere was the perfect base to leisurely explore the hill towns surrounding Siena on some days while chilling out in the house or in Siena and the local villages on other days. The welcome dinner was unbelievably good and the local restaurants were outstanding. Costalpino has a great little bar for a morning coffee and a slice of pizza, or in the evening, an aperol spritz or negroni. Amazingly cheap. I can’t wait to return to Belvedere for the Palio one year.

A beautiful house in the middle of Tuscany country
We arrived on Belvedere with the family. We stay there for 1 week. The view is very beautiful, the house is well isolated, there it’s a big pellet stove to heat the house. There are two bathrooms, two bedrooms, a big living room and a big kitchen well equipped. The house have alarm sistem too. The house is near from Siena and other important places in Tuscany, like San Gimignano, Volterra, Florence. The Chianti, famous for the wine is near to. We pass a very good week, and I be greateful for all with Carola an Adam. Thanks again, we hope to see them soon again.

Photos don’t do it justice
We are a family of 5 (two adults plus 3 children age 11 yo, 8 yo and 4 months, plus my parents. This is a really unique place in the midst of the Tuscan campaign but 5 minutes from downtown Siena. All you need to do to soak-in the incredible views is step outside. Lots of green and lots of space for children to play while the grownups enjoy the panoramic vista (you can see the Duomo of Siena and Mangia Tower in the distance). The lower ground apartment is very comfortable and spacious, very warm with the heated floors + incredible care has been given to the decor: from the rustic dining table to the well equipped kitchen and the really comfortable beds. We have truly enjoyed our time in Tuscany and Belvedere is a place that we would return a thousand times.

Hi we are Carola & Adam and and define ourselves citizen of the world!
Belvedere farmhouse has been in Carola's family for centuries as part of a larger estate. Together we have had the pleasure to bring it back to a new life. Most things here has belonged to the family and have been either preserved or restored with love. We cherish the idea that we can share this heritage with someone new. Open all drawers, leaf through the books and feel at home. We only ask you to treat the place and its odds and ends as if it was your own cause this place truly represents a piece of our hearts.

Why they chose this property

This property and most of its furniture has been in Carola's family for generations. We cherish the idea that we can share this heritage with other people while we are living abroad, giving the opportunity for others to experience the beauty of this piece of Tuscany. Belvedere (lit: beautiful view) farmhouse is only 10 minutes’ drive from the heart of Siena. Situated on a remote hilltop with breathtaking views of the Tuscan countryside with vineyards and olive trees in the immediate vicinity and mountain / forest views in the distance. It’s near enough for ready access to Siena yet remote enough for your private piece of Tuscan tranquility.

What makes this property unique

Siena is one of the most beautiful and best preserved medieval cities in Europe with an absolutely stunning cathedral Il Duomo. The hospital of Santa Maria della Scala is said to be the oldest hospital in the world. The Piazza del Campo is a beautiful sight any day of the year but transforms to its medieval state for the famous Palio di Siena every 2nd of July & 16th August. Each contrada or section of the city battles it out for the famous bareback horserace around city centre.
Belvedere is also a fantastic location to base yourself for day trips to Florence and many other towns dotted around Tuscany such as San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza and Montepulciano. A trip to the abbey Monte Oliveto Maggiore for evening vespers followed by dinner in the quaint walled village of Buonconvento is highly recommended. Further afield are classic medieval towns such as Cortona, Perugia and Assisi and to the west, the Isle of Elba is a day or overnight trip.
Alternatively you can escape for days on end with only a few minutes’ drive or a 15 minute walk to the local shops for a coffee, an ATM or to top up the essentials – some local bread & milk, a bottle of Chianti, some fresh pasta or an array of regional cheeses. There are plenty of supermarkets only a short drive away if you are really stocking up or if you don’t feel like cooking there are many options for dining at a short drive.
