I'm a lady of a certain age, but I still keep all the peculiar traits of my generation: curiosity, creative energy, intolerance of rules and conventions, and a touch of old sound recklessness. They used to call us the babyboomers and we invented new ways to live our teenage years, our adulthood, parenthood, womenhood, manhood and whateverelsehood...All we can do now is to find an alternative and exciting way to get old . I was a medicine student for a long while, but I couldn't afford to graduate. I worked in many different fields with some success. Catering, design and graphic design were my favorites. Now I'm into organic farming. I live most of the time in a little farm near the sea, south of Rome, experimenting my way with permaculture. In the winter time, when the farm goes to sleep and the birds fly southward, I go north to stay with my daughter in London.
Elisabetta purchased this Apartment in 2005
Why Elisabetta chose Municipio I
When I choose to moove in this area I choose at the same time to go back in a place full of memories. But I was more attracted by the big changes happened in this area since I was young. Until short time ago a multiethnic neighbourhood in Rome was utterly unthinkable: we didn't have enough strangers. Nothing to melting down in ol' Rome pot since ages. Now our area may even be described as a sort of Chinatown.I thought it was funny, after all my traveling and living away, going back home at last and find myself in a chineese district. I'm still surprised when a young east asian fellow citizen cheers the local football team and swears in perfect roman dialect. I didn't think it was possible here
What makes this Apartment unique
The reason why I fell in love with this flat at first sight was the feeling to be so surprisingly close to the nature here, and at the same time to be able to enjoy all the benefits of urban life. Sunshine, moonligth, stars, blue birds, storms.... Downstairs you might even forget the sky, and this sounds really awful to me

The apartment was great, very clean and spacious. Elisabetta and her daughter we excellent in communicating with any questions we had.
Wonderful property in the heart of Rome
This was a vacation for my wife and me, combined with a work trip on the back end for me. We arranged for early check in, which was well worth it. Elisabetta was very good about communicating through the VRBO app. Her daughter Giovanna met us at the apartment at the pre-arranged time and gave us a thorough tour. The apartment is very spacious and has all the modern amenities. As it was the coldest May in 62 years, we never needed the air conditioning, but the extra duvets were much appreciated!
With only the 2 of us, the space seemed enormous. Two full bathrooms, two bedrooms, a well equipped kitchen, dining room and living room. Then there is the oversized rooftop terrace accessible from every room through six sets of double doors. This would be a great location for a family - teenagers would love claiming the living room (sleep sofa) as their bedroom - there are sliding room dividers to close it off and make it a de factor third bedroom.
The neighborhood feels safe and there are many restaurants within a short walk. A large supermarket is one block away, the Vittorio Emmanuele Metro stop is two blocks (on the A line). And best of all, the Palazzzo del Freddo G. Fassi is literally directly across the street. They've been producing gelato since 1880. We confess, G. Fassi's gelato was our lunch on several different days.
Pro's - elevator, modern bathrooms, proximity, well-equipped kitchen, washing machine, responsive host, friendly neighbors.
Con's - NONE!
We have an fantastic week in Rome and the apartment was spot on.
Near to a market where we buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and meat.
Also near to a supermarket.
We walked around to see Colosseum, Forum Romanum, Fontana di Trevi, Scalinata della Santissima Trinità dei Monti, Vatican City.
And it easy to take the Metro if you not will walk all time.
The apartment has a beautiful balcony where we spend a lot time in the sun.
So I will recomend this apartment.
Fantastic Property, I will definitely stay there again!
Location was close to everything, Fabulous property! Quiet! I'm a light sleeper and was worried it would be noisy, but it was nice and quiet! Each of us had our own room, since the living room has doors which makes it into another bedroom. We loved it!
Cool apartment with an incredible deck
Elisabetta was wonderful and her apartment felt like our home for 4 days, very comfortable. Our family of 5 was able to really spread out in this apartment. When the kids needed fresh air they played on the huge deck outside. There are 5 or so flights of stairs, which weren’t a problem for us (our youngest is 3). We never used the small elevator. The gelato shop across the street was a nightly stop for our kids and so worth the wait. The trick to using the washing machine is to make sure that the metal basket is completely closed and then to close the lid. This will get your clothes perfectly clean. Overall, we had a great time at this apartment.
Thank you Sarah for taking care of the apartment. It was lovely to meet you and your family and I am glad you had a nice stay at the penthouse. Arrivederci!
Incredible Apartment and Balcony
My husband and I loved our stay at Elisabetta's penthouse. The apartment is so spacious and beautiful and the balcony goes on forever. She had it equipped with many amenities and was so helpful with recommendations and in many ways.
The bed is extremely comfortable and the towels luxurious. And it is very quite. We loved it so much we are coming back in October for another stay.
The Esquilino is located upon the higher and wider of the celebrated Seven Hills of Rome and is right there since the VIth cent b.C. The area is near the Domus Aurea (Nero's Imperial Villa) and the Colosseum, here Mecenate built his famous villa and gardens. In Piazza Vittorio, hearth of the neighborhood, there are remains of two roman aqueducts meant to bring water to the imperial villas, gardens and public thermal baths. At the end of the XIX century the area was rebuilt as you can see it today, and in the last 20 years it became the main multiethnic neighbourhood in Rome. Close to Termini Railroad Station you can find a lot of touristic services, hotels and restaurants with international food.
The Esquilino market hall is a huge, popular, rich market stuffed with fresh vegetables, fruit, seafood, italian specialties, fresh meat, exotic items and people. It's right around the corner and it's worth a visit particularly if you are planning a homemade dinner
The Termini Railroad Station is very close. All the trains and bus to the airports leave frome here.
From Termini in a few minutes on foot you can reach three of the most interesting ancient churches in Rome (S. Giovanni, S. Maria Maggiore and Santa Croce in Gerusalemme).
200 yds away from the flat there is a Metro A subway station, (to Pzza di Spagna, Fontana di Trevi, Vatican Museum). The number 70 bus stops in via giolitti only 200 yds away. It goes to Piazza Argentina (a few hundred yards from Trastevere), Campo dei Fiori, Piazza Navona.
S.Lorenzo is in a few minute walking range: it's a nice student neighbourhood with good restaurants and vibrant nightlife. A little further (but the tram n5 stops down the street and gets you there very quickly) the Pigneto is the new up and coming area where smart young roman people go to have a drink and listen to the latest music.Young artists' hangout, lively and sleepless
By public transport you can easily reach two of the foremost archeological sites near Rome: OSTIA ANTICA (20' by train) and VILLA ADRIANA (30' by bus).
