I'm English and have lived in Venice for a number of years. I have retired recently and when I have time I paint.
Nicholas Blair-Fish purchased this Bed & breakfast in 2002
Why Nicholas Blair-Fish chose Santa Croce
Many people dream of buying a home in Venice. I was lucky to able to do so. Originally I was looking for just an apartment but I also wanted some outside space such as a garden or terrace as well as a mooring which is hard to find in Venice. This house had both.
What makes this Bed & breakfast unique
Personally I love this part of Venice. It is not the most touristy but is close to the places that tourists will want to visit. You can walk almost everywhere. For me, the most important things are the garden which one certainly needs in the summer and the canal as I find it best to get around by boat; it's also incredibly well situated for getting in and out of Venice being a few minutes walk from both Piazzale Roma (cars / buses / coaches) and the train station (Santa Lucia). The grand canal is also only a few minutes walk away (vaporetto - water bus). And not least this is a genuine Venetian 'palazetto; not little flat conversion. The house is light, spacious and airy which alone is slightly unique in Venice as many houses and flats are dark and gloomy. Of course some people like the dark and gloomy gothic look!!
