About Villas Crete Holidays
Villa Luka is exclusively booked by Villas Crete Holidays which is a registered Tourist Office, based in Hampshire, England and Almyrida, Crete. Whilst most travel companies cover many different countries and/or areas of Greece and Crete, we at Villas Crete Holidays only work in the North West of Crete and we specialise in the Apokoranas region, just east of the historic Venetian town of Chania. The Apokoronas (including the villages of Almyrida, Kalives, Kokkino Horio, Plaka and Gavalohori) has long been a popular destination for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort area that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. The area is renowned for its sandy beaches, crystal clear turquoise water, stunning views of Souda Bay and The White Mountains, excellent tavernas, and archaeological sites. The director of Villas Crete Holidays is Frankie Miles. She has worked with rental villas on Crete for more than 20 years and has written the best selling guide book "Crete on the Road". The book includes detailed directions and information to all the major tourist attractions, as well as many hidden sites. Also in the book is the only existing map of the National Highway showing all of the entrances/exits and distances. Both the company itself, and Frankie's book have been featured and recommended in articles in major British newspapers including the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Telegraph, as well as smaller publications such as Greece Magazine.
Why Villas Crete Holidays chose Georgioupoli
Villa Luka is particularly spacious and despite it's village, it has seems very rural. It is not only very attractive but is has excellent amenities, and panoramic views. Very few villas have Free WIFI, a jacuzzi or a large pool, but Villa Luka has all three. Villa Luka is only 700m from the shops and cafes in Neo Horio. You can walk on a a small village road to have a delicious meal and a drink (or two) without worrying about driving home.
What makes this Villa unique
All of our villa owners employ a local house manager who you can call should you need any help at the villa itself. We, at Villas Crete Holidays can help you with all aspects of your holiday including good value, reliable car hire, airport transfers, local information about shops, beaches, tavernas etc, detailed driving directions or walking directions for many routes. We can also arrange private boat hire, private boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, horse riding, water-skiing, big game fishing, guided walking, and guided coach excursions. Our office staff speak English, Greek, and a little French, and have a vast list of local contacts, and our part time representative in resort also speaks some Italian. Most importantly, because we handle many villas, in the unlikely event that there is an unforeseen problem at your villa, we can usually offer you an alternative villa (although this cannot be guaranteed in high season). We have many years experience working in tourism on Crete, and most importantly this experience is specifically related to villa rentals. We use all of our knowledge and local contacts to ensure that your holiday goes off smoothly from start to finish, from first booking the villa that is most suitable for you, to your arrival back home. When you are in resort, we remain unobtrusive but are available by phone during office hours for information, and we have an automated answering service should you have a medical emergency out of hours.

Great villa in a quiet location.
Overall the villa was excellent and just what we would expect. However the dishwasher didn't work and had been altered so it only had one setting as a note inside had indicated. When we went to use it it didn't work I explained to the house manager she didn't sound surprised and said she would ask the villa owner but didn't think she would replace it. When you pay so much for a villa holiday I think this a strange attitude to take.
All in all it is one of the best villas we have stayed in and this let it down.
Thank you taking the time to write a review for Villa Luka, Robert. I am pleased that you did find the villa to be of a high standard generally but I am sorry to hear that the dishwasher wasn't working during your stay. Since I was made aware of the problem (unfortunately not whilst you were in resort) we have had an electrician visit the villa and the problem has been fixed. I very much hope that if you choose to stay in one of our villas again you will contact either our representative in resort, or myself, if you are unhappy with anything. We strive to make our guests holidays as perfect and stress free as possible and would therefore not want something to let our guests down - particularly when it can be easily resolved if we are informed. I will be in touch with you via e-mail. Best wishes, Frankie at Villas Crete Holidays.
Thank you, Sonja, for taking the time leave such a lovely review of Villa Luka. I am very happy that you enjoyed your time at the villa and it was a pleasure to accommodate you. Villa Luka is located on the outskirts of a traditional, quiet, farming village which I like to think offers the best of both worlds because the more touristic villages on the coast are only a short drive of 4kms. I very much hope that we will hear from you again for a visit to one of our villas in the future. Best wishes, Frankie at Villas Crete Holidays.
Neo Horio is a typical Greek village built on a hillside overlooking a verdant plain that has long been fed by the Mantamas and Kouliakoude Rivers, and where most of the village occupants rely on farming the surrounding olive and orange groves to make a living. Originating from Minoan times but rebuilt a number of times after being destroyed by invaders, hence the name - meaning New Village in Greek. The ruins of Koule Fortress (built during the Ottoman invasion over the remains of Venetian buildings) stand on a hill high above the village centre and can be seen from Villa Luka. In addition to the many wells and cisterns that can still be seen today, visitors might also like to visit the olive press and storage rooms of a Venetian residence, and the quaint Agios Gerasimos church that is built on a rock edge on the village outskirts. The focal point of daily life now revolves around the small shops and cafes near an ancient well and the centuries old plane (Platanus) tree that sits on the middle of the T-junction in the centre of the village (700m from Villa Luka). Here the men come to chat, drink coffee (or something stronger) and play tavli (a form of backgammon). In the summer they sit outside under the shade of the plane tree, and in the winter they huddle around the wood burning stoves in the kafenions. The village amenities include a simple taverna, souvlaki/gyros cafes, a mini market which has fresh fruit and vegetables, a bakery, a pharmacy, an old-fashioned barber, and a petrol station. Just 1.8kms from Villa Luka is the village of Armeni. There are 4 excellent tavernas, a good butcher shop, a well stocked mini market, and a number of cafés and souvlaki shops. One of the tavernas hosts regular “Cretan Nights” throughout the season, with live music and fun Cretan dancers, but be warned – you are expected to join in the festivities! For a complete change of pace, the Diadromes taverna is surrounded by an expansive lawn with the tables set on the river bank. At the weekends in the summer there is a babysitter on the premises and an array of children’s toys so that visiting parents can have a break and eat a quiet romantic meal if they wish. The nearby villages of Kalives or Almyrida have long been popular destinations for holiday makers seeking a typically Greek seaside resort that has many amenities, but is far removed from brash tourism. Both villages have child friendly sandy beaches, small fishing harbours, and a wide choice of excellent tavernas, cafes and shops. Also in Almyrida there is a games centre with pool tables and games machines, a scuba diving office, a ca French run water sports centre which rents out kayaks, windsurfers and catamarans when their clients are not using them, and Villas Crete Holidays for tourist information, horse riding, private boat hire, boat trips, private sight-seeing flights, and guided coach or walking tours. A few minutes by car from the villa, there are a huge variety of archaeological sites, and an interesting selection of small craft centres and museums, including glass blowing in Kokkino Horio, and lace makers in Gavalohori. For those of you looking for even more activity, the historic town of Chania with its amazing Venetian harbour and narrow alleys is only 30 minutes away by car.
Cooking classes and wine tasting set at a local wineries can be taken by those of you who are interested. Guided walks led by experts in mountaineering and/or flora and fauna can also be arranged. For those of you who prefer to venture out on your own, a copy of the guide book 'Crete on the Road' by Frankie Miles comes with every villa. The book contains detailed directions to many well known and hidden sites, opening times and prices for all attractions, taverna recommendations, and the only existing map of the National Highway showing the exits and entrances.
Crete has everything you that could possibly want from a holiday: soaring mountains that are snow capped from November to June, many great walking trails including Europe's deepest gorge, ancient archaeological sites and Minoan palaces, quaint villages, sparkling clear blue seas with tavernas serving freshly caught fish, golden beaches, glorious wild flowers in the Spring, and a variety of delicious foods which are all made from healthy home grown produce.
As incredible as the island is, it is the Cretan people who will make your holiday truly memorable. Descendants of the Minoan's, one of Europe's earliest civilizations, and shaped by centuries of struggle against oppression, the Cretans are as rugged as the mountains, fiercely independent but passionately friendly.
The climate of Crete is a temperate Mediterranean climate and the weather is characterized by long hot, dry summers and mild winters. The Spring can be warm and sunny during the day but still have cooler evenings and is perfect for walking, birdwatching and looking at the wild flowers. All in all Crete is absolutely perfect for your Villa holiday
