Umpqua Riverfront Home with Panoramic Views and Private River Access - near Sand Dunes
The Home:
This stunning riverfront home sits in the middle of a horseshoe bend on one of the most spectacular spots on the Umpqua River. Bring your camera because this is a view you’ll want to frame. We bought this home in the mid 80s and raised three kids here and made memories to last a lifetime. We hope that your family can experience a sliver of that life while staying here and enjoy all that the river wildlife has to offer from the window-lined kitchen or partially covered 60’+ wrap-around deck. When the water is warm, you'll enjoy private river access via the via backyard with a swimming hole. Swimming months are usually from late May through September. October can be a little cold.
Built in the 1950s, this home features knotty pine walls, oak hardwood floors, fully equipped kitchen and dining room, four bedrooms (one king-sized bed, two queens, and two twin beds), two bathrooms, and a full size washer and dryer.
Enjoy the river views while cooking in our thoughtfully-stocked kitchen that includes refrigerator with ice maker, down draft range, two kitchen sinks, coffee bar, tons of counter space, and solid oak cabinets. Table with seating for eight plus seating for two at the island bar. Relax in the living room on comfortable Flexsteel reclining leather furniture and stylish reclining side chairs while watching a 60" television with Roku access to your online streaming services. If you stay here in cooler months, feel free to cozy up by our wood-burning stove - or, if you’re not comfortable building and maintaining wood heat, we recently installed a mini split AC/ heating system that will keep you comfy no matter what its like outside. We also have an electric fireplace that gives the living room a little ambiance and, if you desire, some heat as well. While cell coverage is spotty in this area, we have high-speed fibre optic wifi that is reliable throughout the house. The attic is currently under construction and not accessible to our guests.
The Property and Location:
The home is located on a bend in the river that allows amazing views up-river and down river. This is the perfect spot to enjoy the Umpqua river with a natural swimming spot for the whole family. We are located just above tide and enjoy a generally calm flow in the summer months. Bring your fishing, swimming, SUPing gear and enjoy all that the Umpqua has to offer! We frequently see a herd of elk directly across the river. We have watched otters play, a mink hunting eggs, herons fish, and a seal rest on one of “our” rocks. All of the wildlife photos you see were taken from our property. We encourage you to take as many pictures as you want and if you have one you think deserves a place on our wall, we might put it up with your permission. Our photography is strictly at a novice level, so even the inexperienced photographer will be able to capture nature's beauty here.
There is covered parking for one vehicle with space to accommodate up to four additional vehicles. Large trailers are not allowed.
If you forgot something from home, (carefully!) walk across the highway to the store to buy some ice cream, wine, or snacks. Don’t feel like making dinner? Walk across the street and up a hundred yards to the only restaurant/lounge in the area where they frequently feature delicious fish and chips on the menu. And just beyond that is an organic blueberry farm where, during harvesting season, you can pick your own fresh berries or buy pre-picked berries to enjoy.
While our home provides the peace and beauty of the river, we are also a beautiful ~25 mile drive up the Umpqua River Highway from the world-renowned Oregon Dunes in Winchester Bay, or visit Reedsport, Florence or Coos Bay where you can take a charter fishing boat, go golfing, take the family to go-karts or mini-golf or visit the Myrtlewood store. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to stop by the Dean’s Creek Elk Viewing Area just before reaching Reedsport. If you’d like to go wine-tasting, Elkton is just 20 minutes the other direction where you’ll find several wineries that offer wine tastings and a butterfly pavilion.
Please BE AWARE that this home sits between a highway and the Umpqua River; each contain inherent dangers. While we’ve raised a family here and have made more memories than we can count, you should not stay here if you can’t give both the level of respect they deserve. If you have any questions about what that means, please message for details.
