About this property

Gull Cottage in Historic Beaufort-by-the-Sea

Cute cottage on Moore Street in the Historic District of Beaufort located directly across the street from Homer Smith Docks and Marina. Such a quiet and charming location for you to relax. View Town Creek and Newport River from the front porch. Walk 3 1/2 blocks to Front Street and view the ponies on Taylor's Creek. Everything Beaufort has to offer in the Historic and Restaurant District is within short walking distances.

There are several businesses that rent kayaks close by. There are also inexpensive ferry boat rides to Cape Lookout and Bird Shoals. Finally, I am a USCG licensed Captain, and am certified to take paying passengers on charters on my boat(s). However, I highly recommend the inexpensive ferry boat rides that depart from downtown Beaufort, unless you have a specific reason in mind…

The cottage has new paint and carpet throughout, with plenty of brand-new beds and furniture. On the other hand, it's quite quaint with some beautiful antique furniture, artwork by true local artists, Core Banks seashells scattered throughout, and if you look closely enough you will smile if you notice a few of the front rooms that aren't as perfectly square as they were intended to be. In addition to the three bedrooms and two baths, you'll find a nice large living room with two couches with cable TV and Internet. Cook in the kitchen if you like, you'll find everything you need. There's also a back porch for grilling and your own back yard with a small fire-pit with plenty of oak to burn. There is plenty of parking.

Easter vacay
Very clean but definitely a fish smell- upon arrival- we opened several windows to bring in fresh air. Strange to have property in back yard so close to the house. Good location otherwise. Host was very accommodating😃

Great location
Nice little cottage very close to downtown Beaufort and all amenities. Very well stocked kitchen with condiments and spices for cooking. Only down side is no dining or kitchen table. Island in kitchen not very comfortable for eating. Beds are comfortable.

My family has lived here since the 1700's. We're from Atlantic, NC (NOT Atlantic Beach, but the community of Atlantic, between Beaufort/Harkers Island and Cedar Island/Ocracoke). Granddaddy moved from Atlantic to Beaufort in the 1930's to work at First Citizens Bank, so I grew up in Beaufort. I'm back home in Atlantic now, but still keep a part-time residence in the back yard of the Gull Cottage here in Beaufort.

I've traveled almost everywhere in the world during my lifetime, so I have experience with folks from all over our planet. As with any true native here in eastern Carteret County, Queen's English come naturally, but I still love visiting Germany, and have enough German language skills to have a general conversation. My Spanish is not very good, but I do recall enough Spanish from High School to communicate. I've also spent time in Brazil, France, Japan, and many other countries where English is not so common, and I always find a way to communicate effectively.

I am a USCG licensed Captain, and am certified to take paying passengers on charters in my boat(s). I have multiple boats available for charter, but charters are not included in the cottage rental. Just ask me if you are interested...

Why they chose this property

Located in the Historic District, it's just a short walk (or bike ride) anywhere you would like to go in Historic Beaufort, NC.

What makes this property unique

New carpet, new inside paint, new Master bedroom suite. I love dogs, but no pets are allowed now, allowing folks with pet allergies to truly enjoy their stay.

Finally, I'm a big supporter of Carteret Catch, which supports local fishermen and seafood. We have amazing local seafood here in eastern Carteret County, so if you catch me cooking, then say "Hey" and come on over... :-)
