Beautiful Farm House Setting
We found the farm house charming, enjoyed the deck overlooking stone-fenced fields with sheep and cows on sunny days, and a cozy seat in front of the fire on rainy ones. Lots of good dinners out in Staveley and other nearby towns - away from the crowds in the more touristed parts of the Lakes. Well appointed kitchen, great bedroom. Perfect.
Perfect cottage in the Lake District!
This was the perfect stay for our first time in the Lake District! The cottage is immaculate and totally cosy; and as an added bonus, it’s surrounded by stunning views all around. Liz was really easy to speak to and made the check in process very easy. I’d definitely stay again - I already miss being there!
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location
The cottage was really well decorated (nice finishing touches) - felt very homely - and was spotlessly clean!
The location is great. You can take a nice walk into Staveley, which is a lovely little village, or there are plenty of places a short drive away or other great walk options nearby.
We stayed at the cottage in August and were very lucky with the weather - perfect sunny clear skies all weekend and it was warm (possibly a little too warm if you'd travelled for walking, but that's not the property's fault!). We actually spent one afternoon just sitting in the garden enjoying the weather and views - the cottage garden is also very nice, particularly the sitting area.
Overall this cottage is a lovely place to stay if you're visiting the Lake District.
Perfect Lake District Cottage
This property is perfect in every way!
The cottage is lovely with a great mix of traditional features and modern conveniences. It was super clean on our arrival.
The gardens are gorgeous with plenty of room for children to play and stunning views across the Staveley valley.
We couldn’t have asked for a better location; a 15 minute walk into Staveley with it’s great pubs and cafes. Just a short drive from Windermere, Ambleside, Grasmere, Rydal, Elterwater and the fantastic Brockhole Adventure Park.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you all back one day.
Lovely house in a peaceful location with everything you need. Comfortable beds, well equipped kitchen and great bathroom. Use of the garage for bikes. Easy walk to Staveley with shops, good pub and Hawkshead Brewery. The cycle shop is worth a look too. Didn't use the car all week, but took the buses instead. There's an outside toilet if you need a break from the family.
Cozy and comfortable cottage
The cottage was very nice and well maintained. The location was amazing, with rolling green hills and sheep roaming around close by. Our 11 year daughters really enjoyed playing in the fields and watching the birds and animals. There are many activities 10 to 20 minutes away by car or public transport. We would stay again.
Ashes Cottage is 1 mile outside the pretty village of Staveley with numerous eateries, pubs, a playground, The Wheelbase Bike Store and riverside walks. We recommend "More" artisan bakery for delicious pies, cakes and bread, The Eagle and Child Inn for great pub grub and The Hawkshead Brewery for local ales and beer tapas. Pick up the Dales Way footpath minutes from your door and return to a cosy log fire in the evening. Why not drive to Fellfoot Park for lakeside picnics and row boat hire or Grizedale Forest for walks along a sculpture trail or adventures in the trees with "Go Ape"! Visit Beatrix Potter's Farmhouse at Hawkshead or the medieval Sizergh Castle just 10 minutes drive away. There really is something for everyone here.
