The float home consists of a single room plus a bathroom. A queen-size bed, fit for 2 people, and futon couch that sleeps 2, make up the sleeping spaces in the single room of this cute and cozy float home. A nice kitchen area can also be found in a single room. What makes the home so endearing is the bear-themed porch on the front of the home. There is ample seating for all guests on the porch. Plus, there is an additional dock in front of the porch that guests may use to take in the outstanding views of the lake.

Two day fall getaway

I would never recommend this place or return. It’s way overpriced for what you get. Positive: 1. Great view. 2. Check in staff ( once you find it) good. Quick responsive Maintenance to fix the air conditioner. Negative: 1. The listing states: “No kids, and no pets allowed” but pets are in fact allowed. Found out after we paid. 2. Terrible bed!! Very uncomfortable, sags in the middle, lumpy, and squeaky. 3. The address provided was incorrect. We drove around for a half an hour looking for the address that was sent to us. Finally had to stop and ask at two different locations for possibilities. Check in was through a run down hotel called: “Scenic Bay Marina & Motel — Bayview Marina’s Resort.” Located at: 17173 East Pier Road, Bayview, ID. 4. The place has no fireplace, the heater is a tiny floor heater that was very inefficient. The air-conditioning is a window insert, next to the bed, very noisy. 5. No secure parking is available. It’s on the street with no lighting at night. 6. No futon sheets included, (despite the advertisement that the room sleeps four). The bed was so bad, we tried to get one nights sleep on the hard futon. Bring your own blankets or throws for sitting outside. None were available. 7. No stove only a hot pad and the BBQ is filthy dirty—see photo. (The propane tank looked about 50 years old and didn’t look like it was working. ) No beach towels were provided so bring your own. If you drink morning coffee bring your own. The coffee was very bitter. 8. The refrigerator was a mini—see photo—It looked terrible inside—see photo—it had a terrible ice build up, and was very noisy. Buy a new mini fridge.

Beautiful view from rundown float home

As part of our vacation to Idaho, we chose to spend three days at this float home (The Bear House) in Bayview. We had nothing but trouble with the VRBO app not working property and could never get directions, check in information or confirmation that we even had a room until we physically drove to the location and spoke to someone at the marina. The float home was very small, quaint in many ways but in need of cleaning, upgrades and general maintenance. My first clue was the closet door coming off in my hand! Next it was finding old food on the floor and dealing with deck chairs that were mostly missing cushions. This place has so much potential, and the view is spectacular, but sometimes you need to invest in your investment!

Love this area!

We loved our stay. It was very relaxing with a beautiful view of the lake. It wasn't the float home that was advertised and we thought we had booked. That would have been okay but this home had a bed was elevated and we had to climb up a ladder to get into it. But we did have privacy as it was on the end of a dock and the other homes were vacant so that made up for having to deal with the bed situation. We loved the small town of Bayview and I can't say enough about the beautiful view and peacefulness of the lake. We stayed at the end of September after the summer crowd was gone and the weather was still nice although cool at night.
