Why Helen Sheat chose Whangaripo
We fell in love with Matakana, the bush and so many beaches in close proximity. Plus its a very 'Arty' area and it is great to see what people are creating and be part of that.

We absolutely loved our stay at Tui Barn.
The weather was just lovely, the hosts were very attentive and friendly and the hot tub was just perfect.
The Matakana markets on Saturday morning are a real hub of different culture and nationalities which we totally love.
The highlight of our stay in the cottage were the regular visits from Helen's adorable little
puppy Boris who we enjoyed cuddles with and he certainly enjoyed his salmon treats. We would highly recommend this little hidden gem if you like rustic accommodation and relaxation. The cottage was very tidy and clean.
Lovely place, cozy little barn for 2. Amazing once you get to it. Busy gravel road. The old vehicles around the barn are an eye sore but didn’t affect our stay.
Nice tidy accommodation in peaceful quiet location. Would have enjoyed spa pool if a little hotter. Couldn't adjust up to hotter so was luke warm.
We had an amazing stay at the Tui barn !
Me and husband had such a lovely stay at the tui barn it was everything we needed to unwind and spend some romantic time together. The spa pool and candles were a lovely touch under the beautiful stary night sky. The stay was comfortable and relaxing. I highly reccomend the Tui Barn
Thank you Helen
Location well suited to explore the area and local beaches. Peaceful area and off the beaten track
Workshop barn blues
Matakana was an absolute gem! Loved the town and the markets were amazing! The property itself was not what we were expecting at all. Apon arrival we were greeted by an array of junk vehicles and overgrown plants. The part vehicles made perfect sense once we realised the barn we payed good money to rent was half batch half workshop! This could have been overlooked if not for the fact that people were in and out of it during our stay creating all kinds of workshop noise. A bit hard to have a restful afternoon nap when there’s someone on the otherside of the wall making noise the whole time. We booked after confirming the hosts would be a good distance from the barn, as we wanted to take the weekend to relax and feel like we were the only two people in the world. safe to say that is not how it went. The wifi kept cutting out- the barn was musty and there was a dead bird on the ceiling- and then a rat was scurrying in the walls in the night. The only upside was the hot tub and eachothers company..
Safe to say we will not be back 10/10 would not recommend. .
Based close to Leigh Marine park (Goat Island)for snorkelling and diving and multiple beautiful local beaches. Multiple wineries can be visited individually or on tours. There is a focus on local art galleries, Morris and James Pottery also within the area.
Unique boutique cinema within Matakana village is well worth a visit.
