Figs Cottage - French Island (Sleeps up to 6) off-grid family friendly eco-stay
The FIGS Cottage at the French Island General Store/Cafe has 2 bedrooms (sleeps up to 6 people); a living area; well-equipped kitchenette; separate bathroom; heating and cooling; and free WIFI. It is pet friendly (non-shedding/additional fees apply per pet). Because French Island is completely off-the-grid this accommodation is eco-friendly, running predominantly on solar power and rainwater.
You will enjoy total privacy during your stay, with self-check-in: your keys will be located at our general store. Relax and unwind with the whole cottage to yourself, including a private garden area, BBQ, fire pit, etc. Being located next to our store and licensed café (the only shop on the Island) gives you direct access to dine in meals, e-bike hire, car hire (enquire at store for hire costs), meals, wine, maps and groceries. There are also local souvenirs such as French Island wine, honey, soaps and candles.
The cottage it is centrally located on the island, being only 3 kms from the ferry, pristine beaches, fishing spots, walking tracks, and national park. You can create your own adventure – whether you walk, cycle or drive – spotting wildlife, numerous koalas, and protected plant species, all while enjoying solitude, peace and quiet.
To get to the island you can either catch a ferry from Stony Point (Mornington Peninsula); from Cowes (Phillip Island); or bring your own car on the barge from Corinella. A free shuttle bus service is provided complimentary for arrivals and departures - bookings essential.

The French Island General Store, cafe and its accommodations has been run by the Le Serve family and their helpful staff since 2016. The store operates on the original site of the Tankerton Post Office, which opened on 3 September 1890.
Why they chose this property
Our accommodation is located on the same property as French Island General Store, the only shop on French Island. It is unique in that it is a community and tourism hub; dine-in and takeaway cafe; small grocery store; post office; newsagent; bottle shop; bait and produce shop; petrol and LPG station; e-bike/car hire outlet; and accommodation provider.
What makes this property unique
French Island does not have a bridge connection to the mainland thus sea arrival is the only access. This makes the island and its businesses very unique as they rely on tourists and travellers making this journey. When you arrive you will appreciate how remote and untouched the island is. Our property is surrounded by pasture land but very close by is the national park; 70 % of the island is protected park.
